"Big Brother is watching"....blah blah blaah.....continuing the discussion is just perpetuating the paranoia isn't it? The more people that are sucked into believing that our every move is being watched, the more credibility the people that are spreading the paranoia get. Then that flows on to sales of monitoring and detecting devices.

Everything can be tracked back to commercialism. There's a conspiracy theory for you, paranoia leads to sales. People are making money off other's fears. It's all a big commercial enterprise. "Lets make people believe something so we can sell them a product to counter it".

Paranoia, maybe. But here in NZ we have a PM who has a habit of changing laws to suit his own needs, doesn't mind lying to Joe public and generally is an A hole.

As it turns out, there is a US based software company with offices here in NZ who use a software package called "PRISM" but apparently it's not the same as the US software but is linked to our SIS/GCSB/NZ Defence.

I can certainly understand a need for this kind of stuff to a degree, however I don't trust the politicians in charge with what seems like a complete lack of oversight and control.

As it turns out, Google probably has more info on us then even the US government, they track and record everything you do.......

Reminds me of this lol. I've always been one for if you do anything on the net then it's most likely able to be seen by another party hence why I don't put personal photos on FB etc etc. My life is a snooze so eh snoop away.

All you need to do is just get someones name and city/suburb and if they have been active in the media etc. their name will pop up, eg my name will pop up in a sydney sunday newspaper lifestyle story, the local paper as a candidate last local election, results with the runners club, and results in marathons etc I have done.

I don't care.i personally think Muslim terrorists should be held down and force fed bacon and for our troops in Afghanistan to grease their rifles with pig fat.

Pretty well any violent act, big or small, that is politically or religiously motivated is terrorism to at least someone.

so would an Australian soldier in another country performing a violent act be terrorism?

OOOOHHHH....touchy question there.

There is the saying 'One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter'.

To most Australians one of our troops over in another country is simply serving our country and helping the Afghani people. However an Afghani insurgent or even an innocent Afghani civilian may have a different idea about one of our troops.
To a Catholic Nthn Irishperson after Bloody Sunday their local IRA personnel would be viewed as a freedom fighter, the Brits/Protestants viewed them as criminals.
The French spies that blew up the Rainbow Warrior were tried for manslaughter and sent to Jail in NZ. So there, an act of war/espionage became a criminal/terrorist matter.

It all depends what side of the fence you are on, your perspective (if any)

I am serious, I do not understand why Australians are killing people in Afghanistan.
