if your into doing lots of experimenting, try the dizzy tune trick (advance the dizzy 4 degrees) as well and see how it compares to the HSV tunes.

Do the good ol' timing lights work on these cars? I was going to advance it till it pinged and then back it off a tad and see what that did.

sure do, you need to put the ecu into diagnostic mode to stop the ecu advancing the timing and then use timing light as per normal

You can advance the timing up to 8 degrees at times :) but I'd think 16 base would give you about everything a 5 litre has got, not as perfect as a proper tune since you will have way too much timing over 5200 rpm but you go slower if you rev them past that anyway. Premium and 16 degrees should get that 0-60 closer to 6 flat.

P.S there no point at all wasting time with a spanner if you are going to burn the tunes anyway. You can just highlight the spark map and go +6 degrees and be done with it. Spanners are for mechanics :) and people silly enough to install pacemakers :p

i suggested it as some poeple opt to do the dizzy thing rather then pay for the tune, with reapers willingness to do lots of testing:D we could get accurate results between the 2 different techniques for gaining a few simple kw's for the next time someone asks the question

You can go just as fast with dizzy spinning in a straight line on the stock tune at the drags as you can with any amount of custom tuning on a stock 5 litre. You will need at least 16 degrees base to do it but it will make the same times. Allready been tested, might not be quite safe, might not be quite right but it will be just as quick

Hmmm.... somewhat disappointing results...

0-60: 7.063
60': 2.462
330': 6.630
1/8 mi: 10.055s @ 72.5 mph

on the ATJN tune (knock error turned off).

Best I have done on the original is:

0-60: 6.586
60': 2.479
330': 6.536
1/8 mi: 9.873s @ 74.99 mph

seems a bit weird that your faster 0-60 time had a slower 60 foot time? im guessing it wasnt a traction issue then

I reckon his base timing is out of whack and it went past the limits on atjn

Got the timing light but it was too late last night. Hopefully I get home from work early enough tonight to check it. 10 deg base is the start point??
