A mate used to do that in his soarer to 'spool it up'. He crashed it shortly afterwards...

Can't say my old Commodore ever got neutral bombed, but it did go 20km/h in reverse then put into first with a flat foot. Didn't sound to healthy but the 150m right tyre mark on the road was interesting.

Yeah man, every time one of my boxes was going I'd do this.

I'd rather the box go somewhere close to home than at the coast or somewhere like that.

It's absolute murder on gear, but since these boxes were already rooted -flaring up to the rev limiter on shifts, about 10 seconds for a gear to engage from park- I didn't really care.

I must put my hand up for doing this but I will point out it was a long time ago when I was a P plater getting egged on by mates. I had a VH SLE with a 4.2l and took it to about 4500 rpm and dropped it into drive, the result was a little squeal from the rear and me rolling about 100m. The next day after getting it home on the back of a truck I discovered a very neatly snapped axle.

I would imagine most autos these days would stop it from doing too much, anti-abuse etc.
