Ok so I've bought a SAAS wooden wheel with a boss kit - which hopefully will arrive in the mail on Tuesday.

I was looking at the standard wheel which is in the car now and was wondering how the hell to remove it. I saw two bolts on the bottom of the wheel - are these all that are holding it in?

When I'm removing it - do I need to worry about the air bag going off in my face?

Do I just yank it off or should I wiggle it gently?

Anything else I need to do or not do when I'm taking the old one out?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Ed

If it has an airbag you cannot legally swap it out.

^ As above, it is a defect and will not pass rego inspections (if checked correctly).

Also the air bag WILL go off in your face if you do not remove it correctly.

tweet tweet.

it's illegal in every state I believe to remove, tamper with or disable factory installed safety systems in cars.

It is covered by the ADR identification plate mounted in the engine bay, it is part of the Australian Design Rules that covers vehicle occupant safety restraints fitted to the vehicle.
Number 29 from memory.

Worst case scenario would be lending your car to someone to drive, them having a fatal accident and you fronting the corners court to explain why you remove it.

Purchase a wood style steering wheel cover. Problem solved.

Does the same go for swapping out the front seats? I want to put in some racing-style bucket seats cause my brother has them in his hilux and they're super comfy so I would like some...But do the original seats have airbags in them?
