is that just a k&n panel?...ive experienced result in economy and performance (ever so slight performance, nothin major) when ive used k&n pod filters on my vs and on my previous commys..a vn calais and a vp ss.
ive tryed all types of setups before (standard filters,k&n panel, k&n panel with CAI, standard panel with CAI, k&n pod and now k&n pod heatshielded with CAI) and i swear by pod filters, i love em (i must be in a very small minority,lol)...if you got the dosh id recommend givin a pod a go.

Well, anyone thinking of putting a cai and red line filter on in the pursuit of economy, thumbs down. Gone from about 9.65 to about 9.85 over a reasobable test period. The papery might be going back in.

I have had the CAI in for a while with the paper filter and since adding the panel filter have had next to no improvement. Might try a pod one day soon.

ok, im writing up a new post with my info to see before and after result of the stroker on fuel consumption:

VS
V6 - 4.2L stroker
series ll
auto
equipe
sedan
MODS: C.O.M.E. stroker short block with C.O.M.E. 4.2L crank (with all machineing and boring...i wont go into that), I beam rods, hyperuetectic dish pistons, C.O.M.E. hydraulic roller cam and lifters, rollmaster timeing gear, C.O.M.E. valve springs w/ chrome moly retainers, Yella Terra 1:8 stealth street rockers, overhauled heads w/ very mild porting, lukey 2 1/2" exhaust and extractors with hi-flow cat, s/c VS CAI, heatshielded k&n pod, msd coil packs, and C.O.M.E. tuned chip.
tyres 41 psi
18" rims
start& stop about 30%
idle time 10-15mins
no excess luggage
usually just myself 80% of the time
vortex 98 for caltex
average speed 70-80k's/hr
k's on the clock are 198,000, engine has done about 3-4,000 k's
usually very hard take-off
59L tank
air-con never on

ok, week one: i did 300k's from 36L, which is 12L/100K's...pretty good if i dont say so myself, better than a s/c v6 or a v8...but i have more power than both when they are stock.

week two: similar results, 310k's from 38L, thats 12.25L/100K's

week three: a new P/B 350k's from 40L, which is 11.42L/100K's

week four: last week of my test, i did 290k's from 34L, 11.72L/100K's

Im interested in your fuel economy sircruisealotVS. On one hand, you have had alot of engine work done, which may be in your advantage. But than again you say you have a heavy foot. He he. Very interested to see what you're getting. I would be copying some of your mods if you are getting good economy.

you may want to note the time of day you are travelling as well, your car runs a lot better in the early morning or late evening when you have nice cool dense air. another thing to note is that your car will suck a lot of gas if your doing a lot of really short trips as your engine isn't getting up to temp and it uses extra fuel during the warmup phase.

long term figures from trip computer

1997 VS II Berlina
V6 auto
59l tank using unleaded 91 octane
111,000km
17" 235/45 at 32psi (cold)
Aircon 50%
city - highway 50%
standard exhaust
no CAI
K & N filter
driver + 2 kids etc 50%

average per 100km/ 14.7 ltrs

it was running at almost 16ltrs/100km but it was running rough/bad idle etc. found a purge hose had come off under the throttle body. fixed this and the fuel economy improved. this is the missus car and the little lady has a big right foot that doesn't like to get beat by boy racers or Fords or grannies or anybody for that matter and she's always running late

note, this is in NZ and we have crap fuel over here

VS Exec
VS Series 1 Exec V6 Fuel Consumption

hi folks
I have been compiling my fuel usage pretty methodically (obsesivly) since I bought my VS. Its used daily driven to and from the city during the week and general trips on the w/e. You can tell where its done a long run to the country.

1995 VS S1 V6 Executive
No modifications to engine or exhaust
15inch alloys wearing stocky bob janes at 32psi
Driver + 1 passenger 50% of the time
No extra luggage aside the norm
90% driving is city cycle, peak hr
Idle time, 20mins a day
Faster then normal take off but cruise
A/C in summer only
Auto trans, always in 3rd. Dont use OD in city cycle, waste of time.
59ltr fuel tank
210K on the clock
Fuel ULP from BP, Caltex or Liberty

How are you guys telling exactly how much fuel is used. Distance is easy, just the trip meter, but how do I find out exactly how much fuel I've used?
