Far out, I'm six weeks off 50 and my body feels like it is already wearing out. Stuffed my back on the weekend, and now need to go to the GP, who will send me for xrays, only to tell me there is nothing they can do.
Makes it hard to sleep, when you move it canes. Need to be at work because I'm the boss, and we are short staffed.
Man I still have to work another 20 years before I can retire. Gonna be pretty ordinary if I have done some major damage.

Wait until you just bend over to do something and end up having to crawl to the toilet on your hands and knees o_O....

Yes it has happened to me....I bent over to put a tyre on a landcrusier split rim and ended up straining a muscle in my lower back.....I spent 2 or 3 days having to crawl to the toilet because it was too bloody painful to stand up....Sleep...Practically non existant...Just a slight move in bed or just randomly during the night, muscle spasms....

The doc put me on some anti-inflammortaries and pain killers for that...

I have constant back problems, all to do with my trade choice.....I have learnt to live with it and I'm well over 50.....Not much fun but not much else I can do about it

Okay losh, here’s the thing. Some twenty five years ago when I was about thirty seven years old, I hurt my back lifting a coffin with a very heavy bloke inside, and yes he was dead! I suffered a squashed a lower fifth disc in my spine, which gave me the shits for ages. I saw physiotherapists, chiropractors, and took all the painkillers that I was allowed, plus a lot more! I even took the advice of the chiropractor to wear a built up shoe because my right leg was nearly an inch shorter after a bad break when I was twenty two, which was probably adding to the strain on my squashed disc, and over the years my spine was shaped like a question mark! After eighteen months or so, I stopped going to the chiropractor and stopped wearing the built up shoe. I started taking things into my own hands by doing exercises for my stomach muscles. Just lightly at first, and then progressing. Crunches (not full sit ups), the plank etc. gradually strengthening all those muscles that protect your spine. I still do these exercises today, and I believe this has helped me so much, preventing me getting another spinal injury. And yes, I have continued doing manual work in all this time.
I hope your back injury is not too serious, and that you recover soon, because yes, you are not alone and there are plenty of people who have suffered from catastrophic back injuries.
So I guess what I’m getting at is, for all those people out there suffering a back problem, don’t just rely on the so called specialists (and I mean no disrespect to those reputable specialists), but have faith in the healing powers of the human body. You just need to give it a helping hand yourself. Exercise those back muscles, strengthen your core, protect your spine.
Trust me, it will help prevent you from suffering those niggly back injuries in the future.
Good luck mate!

I can't believe I'm basically 50 and my body is already getting worn out. Too much sitting on my arse at work and no longer doing physical work as I was when I was working for myself. Trouble was working for myself I made next to no money...... Too many overheads and too slow on the tools. On a really decent wage in my current job but eating biscuits and drinking coffee milk means I have packed on the pounds....

Hey mate, the guy who was in the coffin I was carrying was a hundred and fifty kilograms, less than fifty years old and sat on his arse eating biscuits. Don’t go there!

Is thay some shît. We are like cars, the older we get the higher the maintenance and OEM parts no longer available. So far, I took care of my old bones, started earlier, seen too many mates in the US Army all broken, form all the Gong-Ho shît they did because it was "fun" at the time. Some are in disablity all pilled up by the Vet Admin, and not able to find a decent job. In the way things are going, depending on the Gov is going to be very dificult.
