So have a VT V6 SII 1998. Missus driving along the freeway and starts making a ratling noise, car shuts down. I get there and take a look and no water, motor not hot but has been an hour since she pulled over.

So get it towed home, and try to start to see if it kicks over and it does just. Stop it put coolant in and turn her over again and the coolant just blows back out the radiator, like a friggin volcanoe.

So i get that the motor is cooked, just interested in peoples thought as to the most common issues when this happens. I know, how longs a piece of string......but thought i ask anyway.

Daz.

Could be many reasons, But I think a common reason is when the thermostat decides to be funny and get stuck closed. Had that happen on the old vx and current vy, makes a good mess of coolant under the hood

Alternatively when the radiator gets clogged.. But not really common that one.

Wish this was the same case.......she will turn over but not start. Don't know what the issue is?

Sounds like a head gasket to me. Not a really hard job to do.

Yep, the rattling noise doesn't sound promising.
