We are all probably getting a little carried away with what is normal loose usage of terminology (which annoying as it can sometimes be isn’t uncommon). But let’s not start behaving poorly by all ganging up on one poster..

Instead let’s get back to giving some good advice to @william77ize...

William, if I was local, and COVID wasn‘t a thing, I’d drop by and take a quick look at your car. But I’m not local and Victoria is infected puss if the media can be believed....

Isn’t there a local Holden dealer you can take it too. It can’t be too expensive to get a basic engine check...

As is, it sounds like you really need another opinion...

Thanks for the advice guys. Got the racv to take a look earlier dismorning and they said the same thing as what reads here so I ended up taking it to my mechanic and this is the end result. Thanks again for all the help and advice!

Much better/cheaper than an engine swap so glad it worked out

Just shows it's always worth a second opinion on big spends... and doctors diagnosis

Told you. I bet there's a V6 out the back which they pulled the injectors off.
One of our good cutomers is a guy that has 15 hiace vans and 3 FG utes his office lady got done with that scam. We did a second hand engine for her and she told us a place we know sold her an engine the said they "had in stock" she got ripped and ended up paying twice.
She's happy with our work because her car lasted more than 10,000k.

William, pay it forward, name and shame the 1st mechanic. Hopefully you can spare someone being ripped off.
This guy is either a crook at worst, or just plain lazy at best. No one should be taking their car to him either way.
