Why change them you don't no if that's the problem yet, it could be a worn out TCC valve.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your ideas.

I found my Lenovo tablet that had the Envyous diagnostic software on it, but Windows wants an update , so I am fixing that at the moment. Once I have that sorted I'll check the codes. God knows why I didn't do that in the first place.

Ryco Filter ordeal.

On a side note, I was watching a video on the 4L60E and the fellow was going over the different types etc. I realised I put the wrong bloody filter in the transmission!!! F@#$!!!!!

So the cliff notes for a backyard'er like me:
VY - stepped aka "Deep pan" = Ryco RTK4 (ALL PLASTIC)
4L60E Manufacturer = 1996 -1999
Used on commodores ( VR, VS, VT, VX, VY, VZ, VE) 1993–2012

Source:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_4L60-E_transmission
Video Source at the time index of pan differences.
Ryco: RTK4 Filter

Why??
Well from my layman point of view, it *appears* that the RTK4 filter can contain more fluid and is 10 mm thicker, at 30 mm, than the RTK2, being for shallow pans at 20 mm thick (4L60E 1993 - 1997).
The feeder neck and top of neck to bottom of filter is the same, so it won't fall out.:)
I'm going to do a side by side comparison tomorrow at Supercheap.

Maybe another expert here can shed some light on it.?? I would really appreciate that explanation.

Yet, if I go to the Ryco page it tells me RTK2 (Half metal, half Plastic)
caveat emptor!

So it's not a matter of falling out, but a problem of insufficient fluid volume?

Looks like I'm going to do another fluid change anyway as I put the wrong bloody filter in. So I'll see what the fluid looks like.

I hope the above information can be of use to other people.

Unless someone swapped out the original tranny then all you need is your make, year, model, Engine size, Auto or Manual in search my car on repo or any other site and it will give you the correct one.

I thought I was doing the right thing by searching on the Ryco website.
But if you put in Holden Commodore 2003 - It returns the RTK2 filter.

Even Holden Berlina 2003 does not bring back any Transmission filter type.
Do you have a better site to use?

I just use supercheap or Autobarn or Repco they all have a vehicle type, you just put your car rego in and shop your car.

Yea, just checked them out SuperCheap and Autobarn do the same thing and list the RTK2 and RTK4. And Repco Just lists some other brand.
Only Supercheap mentions "Smooth pan 50mm" and "Stepped pan 100mm".
So to make a correct choice you would need to understand why a thicker filter is required and know if you have a stepped or smooth pan, otherwise the rationale is "Both filters are listed as ok for the car, so I'll choose the cheaper one (RTK2)."

Deep pan use RTK4, shallow pan use RTK2.
