It is surprising there have been delays with car parts, yet speaking with a tyre supplier, they aren't having any issues getting 4 to 5 40 foot container loads in per week...This is the same supply rate pre-covid...

Sorry it might be slightly off topic, but still along the lines of supplying of parts

I am not surprised.
ignoring the usual (pads, shockers, wipers, globes etc)
any car/SUV/4WD these days has up to 10,000 parts

yeah... that includes hardware like nuts and bolts but
it still leaves LOTS of parts coverage for any vehicle
manufacturer selling in this country.. AND for 10 years too

It's not just the supply chain, I would imagine it's also the production of said products. We have been in a covid environment for over 9 months, existing stocks at the start of covid are well and truly exhausted and many countries are doing it much harder than we are down here. I had to pick up a few bits and pieces from the pharmacy last week and certain items were simply not available, fortunately they did have alternate options but I see things getting worse before it gets better again.

I would imagine it's also the production of said products.

Our workshops install Italian made heavy equipment autolube systems on new machines.

Earlier in the pandemic I had to write a letter to the manufacturer, for them to onforward to the Italian govt, stating that we are an essential industry in Aus, reliant on their products as part of their case to the Italian Govt that they could continue manufacturing.

One of our product line parts are manufactured in South Africa, a lot of industry over there are shut down because of Covid, usual supply was 7 - 10 days, now we are out to 2 - 3 months. Donaldson filters are sourced from all over the world, some part numbers have blown out to 12 months.

Update:

it would appear that the insurer will supply and fit a new duramax crate motor. Apparently this avoids any ongoing dramas which may arise following a rebuild.

I don't anticipate having the Colorado repaired until well after New year so bought a stand in family car to tide us over....a WM 6 litre caprice....

Mrs put about 20 odd liters of petrol in our TDI cruze and done 200 odd km's on that tank.
Drained tank and lines, changed filter, purged with new diesel and didn't miss a beat after that.

Happy update. Local toyota dealer (holden repairer agent) cleaned fuel system. Reckons the ute runs like a dream.

Seems like the duramax motors might be as good as I have heard.....
