Upgrading speakers in VE

Hey guys, just a quick (possibly dumb) question.
I want to upgrade the speakers in my VE but am wondering, if i don't fork out a couple of hundred dollars for the new fascia/head unit, will the sound improve or will it sound basically the same?

The only head unit I've found is a screen that comes in the fascia with climate control, i think it was $600 off the top of my head. Way too much!!

Don't look at the Alpine one, it's $2,799

Unfortunately, I don't want an Alpine unit... I just want the fascia to install my own double DIN unit.
