Yeah dude ive got a vk calais with a mild efi 5ltr and goes like a mother f***er on crack. i had our local exhaust specialist do an exhaust on it full custom system which he was experimenting with and he couldnt believ it. efi all the way, reason being good power stock better fuel efficiancy better response and dirt easy to wire up. me and a mate do engine conversions and they are a great conversion. the only down fall with efi is you cant really self tune it unless you have mapping equipment but yeah dude i mite post a clip of my calais driving past it sounds really crisp deep and healthy. thats one other thing dude carbie cars can have a tendency to sound rednecky and cackly when you do a to big of an exhaust on them but yeah dude efi is the smartest thing ive ever done.

My car has a 308 running to a 2.5 inch exhaust with a 3 inch tip. It sounds somewhat like a mild hotrod on steriods.

If anyone has seen 2 Fast 2 Furious (I'm sure you all have), it sounds somewhat like the hemi they manage to win. It's very offputting to potential opponents on the street to rock up next to a Commodore that's rocking from side to side with an exhaust system that sets off car alarms.

Speaking of which, to date I've set of exactly 126 car alarms just by driving past.

LS1 is a pretty tight fit into an early commodore, I thought my 5L was until I saw a Gen III in a VH.

Mainly to do with our favourite topic of the moment... the exhaust :) My EFI 5L headers (1 3/4" primaries) sit very close to the chassis rail (less then 10mm) on the passengers side and have only a couple of mm clearance around the bellhousing for the gearbox.

There have been Gen III conversions on early model commodores but I dont know what assecories such as airconditioning & power steering you would be able to fit.
I only have about 5mm clearance between my airconditioning compressor and my drivers side chassis rail.

cheers

How on earth do you keep a tally? I stop counting when I run out of fingers.

Because everyone seems entertained by the fact I can set off car alarms just by putting my foot down in virtually any given street in the city.

I went to a birthday party a while back, I only knew about two or three people there. Turns out quite a few of the guys there were revheads, and when I left the party, I made sure to drive past and let rip. I set off three car alarms in that street outside the restaurant. By the time I had reached the next block, I had a bunch of SMS messages on my phone, and when I got home I found a bundle of emails about it.

Guess it's turned into a bit of a party trick.

some of the best cars iv herd are genIII in vt's and things there makeing really good exausts for them now in good price ranges full stainless thats what gives it the sweet note specially when they open up and when u idle round town nice and quiet! As for the question depending on how much money you have id go efi for sure but u can also get a turbo patern 5.0 with a good bottom end slap it in save up for some vs heads manifold ecu etc and put it on at a later date replacing piston and rings when u do so that way you know the engins fresh. Iv done the same with my engin im running the vs heads harrop manifold and a quady i can inject it when ever but yeah "money"

Just look at the username.
Carbs suck, literally, they need some vacuum to pull the fuel in.
Injection sprays fuel straight in the ports.
With no need for that bit of vacuum you can flow more air through motor by going that bit bigger with throttle opening. so more air = more fuel = more bang per cycle = more power from a given engine than possible with ANY carby, no matter how well you tune it.
you want induction noise? Run an A9x bonnet scoop with 2 panel filters into airbox directly over a big throttle body, you'll probably even hear the valves. it will roar. it will roar loud. You will get a loud hissing at idle though. and run a quiet exhaust with it, coppers might stop you from noise when hooning but it will idle really quietly while he's trying to tell you the car is too loud.

I guess it's a case of old-school charm versus efficiency and power.

I'm sticking with my 308 for the charm and the sound. I've found that no matter how beefy the EFI sound is, it's never quite as warm as the 308. The new V8's are just too quiet for my liking.

Still, even with my 308, I'm sure I could pump out more than enough ponies for simple street performance. It's not like I'm going up against supercars or anything. I think with enough work, there's very little on the streets that could stand up to a worked 308. Just takes a bit more time and money to get there.
