Have a rellie that has run a trimatic for years behind a 308 and 304 constantly spinning to 6,000+....Only issue he has had has been an annoying oil leak he can't find to fix.....

Here's a youtube link to the car...Not real good but a little understanding of the punishment

From memory that combo was a 240K old VS 304, with the largest hydraulic cam he could buy, with a 750 holley demon (can't remember the manifold brand) std trimatic converter, and 4.11 or 3.9 gears fitted to the original VK diff.....

A Salisbury from a v8 vb - vk would work get the booster and master cyclinder as well for the rear disk conversion.
Does it have power steering if one is to get technical were there any v8 commodores that didn't have power steering as I all ways preferred power steer and never seen a v8 commodore with out it. I know of a bloke getting a road worthy with out power steer but the only one I know of the car is a pos that I reckon he bribed the roadworthy mob.
If you don't plan of powersteering add that bit of bs to your find out list.

My VK BT1 didn't have power steering.

I'd be going a little lower with gearing....somewhere around the 3.55, so you can at least pull top gear easy...3.08 you might be lucky to get into top gear as that is more suited to highway running not skids
