Thanks Zeke
Not as reliable ?
Still wonder why a 5 speed isn't as efficient as the 4 speed?
Im tossing up between a
2010 3.0 litre omega wagon 150000ks $10,000
and a
2009 Calais wagon 5 speed auto 125000ks for $12,000

Tassie prices suck compared to the mainland.
3l omega would have 6spd auto.

This might be irrelevant, but here's some figures that I've gotten off memory in my Series 2 SV6 which has a 6spd auto.

70km/h - 1100rpm
100km/h - 1500-1750rpm

Thanks everyone
So any idea if the 5 speed auto is actually worse on fuel than the 4 speed auto? As claimed.
I mostly do highway.
Cant decide on a 09 Calais wagon 5 speed auto with 130000ks.
2011 omega wagon 3 litre 125000
both $12000.

The 4 speed sits on about 1800 at 100km/h.

Rudi, I would choose the best car not just going by gearbox.
But surely they were not still using the 4 speed in 2011 models, were they?

The dual fuel VEs used 4spd, switch to pure lpg the 4spd finally died. Long life from 1988 to 2011

Hi Greenacc
Yes I think 2011 has the 6 speed
I should have also said why regarding the 4 speed to 5 speed.
Probably should of also added
is there any difference really in fuel usage between the 5 and 6 speed autos too.
Just in case I can't quit stretch to the series 2.

No dual fuel for me. LPG is getting hard to find in my parts. Tassie prices suck too, not cost effective down here.

I would say that the 5 and 6 speed are better on fuel than a 4speed.

Forget about the fuel difference, it would be less than 5 bucks a week between the three boxes. The difference will come from 3.0 or 3.6, SIDI or not SIDI, that is the question ;)
