i went the cheapish option, changed the fronts to 6.5 splits, got an amp and sub, runnning the splits and sub off the amp the the stock rear speakers off the head unit, they are more for filler than anything, they arent that loud :)

There are other options for sound insulation, from what I hear dynamat is very good. The audio specialist I contacted to get my centre speaker used a range of differant materials to insulate the doors so I would contact a few installers in your area and get some feedback from them.

Hi UFO - I think the rattles in the doors are a combination of things - door handle cables, the plastic inner lining (the main suspect!) and some panel flex. Something I will get around to looking at in the future - not a big issue unless cranked right up.

Troyziee - the Polk DB651 speakers are 4 ohm - stockers were 2 ohm. Just means you need to wind the volume up a tiny bit more for the same level of sound. Still scares the crap out of me at 25+ on the IQ...! For now I have left the stock tweeters and centre speaker as-is and wound the treble back to -4 on the equaliser. Probably will not touch them as everything sounds just fine. The idea from the start was to keep things simple, end up with a good quality sound and not butcher my new ride in any way. All looks 100% stock.

DB651's come with integral 3/4" tweeters and no seperate cross-over as such - figured they know more about it than me so left them as they came out of the box. If you want seperate cross-overs to go to the dash, this becomes a much bigger job - need to mount the crossover somewhere in the door and run additional wires from the doors to the tweeters in the dash as the stock tweeters come straight off the IQ.

so the only difference in running 4ohm instead of 2ohm of the standard headunit is abit of volume difference..? makes my decision ALOT easier

ALSO: looking at the POLK range now, there are 4 different ranges, which order do they go in as to cheapish ones through to the top line? theres SR, MM, DX-i and DB

Looking a Polk too. Was quoted $369.00 for a set of full splits and $220.00 for the rears. DUnno about Polk, will go and listen to them first.

Troy, I went with DB651 speakers - Why you may ask... I run 4 of these in my boat so I know how good they sound and quite a lot of the G8 owners in the US run these so I knew they would fit. What's important is the frequency response - the DB651 goes down to 35Hz. The lower you can get the better. You should be able to pick up DB651 speakers from WOW in Oz for around $140 a pair (I can already hear the US guys laughing in their beers at how much we have to pay for them here!). Don't get the DB651S (the slimline version) as they only go down to 50Hz. Go for the proper DB651 - not sure about the other Polk models...

If I had my choice about the ultimate speaker - then it would be Bose. They won't sell you car speakers, but you can buy them for boats - at a price of course!

I would personally not even worry about the central speaker at all, it is in a really bad place.

Instead invest in a good set of component speakers and an amp to run them, the difference will be more then significant.

I am running 2 x 2 x Focal 165KR 6.5" component speakers in the factory locations and they sounds perfect.

- Centre Dash Speaker... (3.5" 30w 4ohm)
On the premium system it is a single coil two wire speaker taken from the head unit
Polarity = +Orange -L/Blue
I believe on the basic system it is a two coil 4 wire speaker taken from the feeds to each front door speaker. One coil feeds from each front door speaker circuit.

Hence why the centre speaker sounds like crap on the basic system and pretty good (though a bit pointless) on the premium system.

The premium system has a dedicated centre channel, whilst the basic system just combines the left & right channels into the centre speaker :bang:
