VE SS Ute. 6 speed Manual. Difficult to select Reverse.

Out of the Blue, my VE SS Ute won't go into Reverse as easily as it used to. You've really got to jamb it over for it to go there.
Has anyone come across this 'problem' before and how did you rectify the issue?

Sometimes mine is a little finicky. I normally go to first move 50cm and go again. It only happens on a rare occasion.

They're a finicky box anyway. They are pretty strong but are not known for smooth shifting until hot and also like revs to work best.

If you're still running the recommended oil (full syn trans fluid) drain it out and fill with Penrite full syn GL-5. It will help shifting a decent amount. Trans fluid in these boxes is not great.

The gearbox in my manual ve ss was replaced with a brand new one about 25 - 30 thousand ks ago and it’s notchy to get in reverse at times also, it’s just how they are unfortunately as losh said the penrite pro gear 70w75 gearbox oil definitely helps

Just select 3rd gear and go straight back into reverse. Has always been a problem with the T56.

syncros wear out over time making gear selection a bit harder
