Holden 308s were hardly a fast car, not from factory anyway. 340 Hemi was a good performance engine, better than the 360.

360's were choked too much....Needed work to them to get them moving.....They are good for strokers these days.:)

340's weren't very common....

My cousin had a Charger 265, It had a four speed. I thought Chargers came out with four speeds?

The early R/T Chargers were 3 speed on the floor manuals as were the Hemi Pacers.

It wasn't until the E49 was released that they came equipped with a 4 speed manual.

The 3 speed was both a good thing and a bad thing, it allowed them to do very quick quarters but was a downfall on a circuit.

At least that's my memory and understanding.

I straight line raced against a few and had some wins and just as many losses.

Correct 340 was much better than the 360, memory is vague but there were Plymouth Barracudas which were a very heavy unit doing sub 14’s back in the day

VK onwards Chargers were 4 speed. There were VJ 3 speed, but I think some were 4 speed in VJ by memory.

Back in 73 my mum had a 265 Regal sedan. I was always amazed at how well it moved something that big and heavy. Didn't handle too well and we always used to slide back and forth across the front bench seat!!!

VH had the 4 speed.....Wasn't till 1972 they had them.....Wasn't enough made/sold before bathurst, which is why they couldn't race with them.

The famous 4 speed stripe on the guard.

And yes as the years pass, our memory fades, making it difficult to remember things like this... :)
