Be aware that 99% of mechanics just drop the pan and change the filter in a auto transmission service, that still leaves around 75% of the old trans fluid in the transmissionSorry, I should have mentioned that! Auto
Think about that for a minute, would you be happy to only drop 25% of your engine oil in a service, leaving the other 75% of cooked and contaminated oil in there
The only 25% to 75% mix you should do is 25% whiskey and 75% water for a refreshing medicinal beverage
Do a google search on "transmission flush"
I do a transmission flush on my 4l60e every 12 months for piece of mind
I feel a pan only and filter change is pointless if you care about the longevity of a transmission, more so if you actually run more than standard power through it or tow
Hell, most stock trans tunes are the worst enemy of the transmission fluid, stock trans tunes are based of soft shifts, soft shifts are all about slip, slip creates heat, heat kills trans fluid over time, cooked trans fluid will kill your transmission
But, getting rid of the stock transmission tune is only some tweeking away, and a shift kit and transmission cooler is well worth the outlay for our old slush boxes
