Hey all,

I need a reaaaallllyyyy big favour! Okay so I currently own a 1985 vk calais with a 202 black motor with a trimatic gearbox. Here's the problem: as nice as the police can be and they honestly do a great job, they have defected my car for tyres (only thing thats realllyy wrong with it) but they have put down that it needs a full inspection at the motor registry in canberra. My problem is that I have only had the car for a couple of weeks, so I'm not sure what the engine bay is SUPPOSED to look like. The previous owner thought it would be cool to put a whole heap of k&n filters on it which will need to come off.

My question is, does anybody have a relatively untouched vk or anything really with a black 202 in it? I just want to have a look at what its supposed to look like so I can fix everything that needs fixing. there's a few sensors that look like they should have wires hooked to them, but don't. Although I realise this MAY be a longshot, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

OK if its a Calais with a 202 its ment to be EFI, is yours injected?

Post up a pics and we will tell you whats wrong or atleast what you need to do to get it past.

I may have a factory airbox kicking around _maybe_ if theres a pod on the AFM

It isn't fuel injected anymore, the previous owner thought it would be smart to convert it to carby. Which might explain all the sensors hanging around. The only thing that concerns me is they don't look like injectors. I also have no idea how the f*** this vacuum controlled cruise controls supposed to work. theres air lines connected to airlines that are then connected to more airlines! I tried adding photos to this comment. But I'm not sure if it will work or not.

First pic is a vaccum pump by the looks. I'd be checking that the engine numbers match up to what the RTA might have because that will cause you issues.

They've done a fairly horrendous job at converting it to carby. That manifold, I bet, will be touching the extractors. Not to mention that washer that has replaced the proper spacers that clamp the inlet and exhaust manifold/extractors down.

Have they removed the fuel pump and computer too? It would be worth it to change it back so it's all original. Cold starts will be much nicer and it'll have more poke.

It's not hard to track all of the bits and pieces down. I got a full injection setup including inlet manifold and intake pipes/air box , computer and wiring loom for $20.50 on ebay earlier this year.

That vaccum tee controls the vac advance iirc. Your engine (or the head at least) is the original efi version. So I'd assume you'll need it to have the emissions gear that it came out with (I.e. The whole injection system). But I suppose it wouldn't hurt to just take it and see if they pick up on it.

Yeah theres heaps of fuel related lines dangerously close to the extractors. I'm just worried because my vk SEEMS pretty clean but due to the rta inspections being harsh as #### I dont think it will pass. Thanks for your help EYY I'll certainly look into converting it back to fuel injected. Also does anyone know if the tailshafts are exchangeable with say vh/vc as I'm certain my centre bearing is about to let go.
