Use door hinges as gated baffles, allow the oil to move toward the pickup but not away from it.

yes mate, you were correct needed to angle sump
no point being too close to K-member
angled the rear of sump, seems sump is not too low

tapped #4 cam bearing for 8mmx1.25 grub screw, then ground grub screw down
attempt to drill out the grub screw but no 1mm drill and all other blunt...typical
ordered 1mm from bunnings tomorrow collection

drill and tapped the oil pump for 1/2" NPT to -12 90 degrees fitting, then epoxied the aluminium fitting in
lucky enough have few fittings and hose lying around

Need to think about another oil pickup and then route through side of pan

with any luck we can finish the oil system on block tomorrow and then give it the water blaster treatment and shampoo
then off to drop off engine builder to deck block

Then finish welding sump, then some make up to make it look pretty

was having play tonight with compression ration data
if changed to 5.7 " holden rods would not need to deck block, top of piston would be out of block by 0,0475" and would need
Not sure whether its practical to run piston out of block that much, however top piston ring is still 0.200" further down piston

Bore: (diameter)4 in.
Stroke: 3.025in.
Cylinder Head Volume: 63cc
Effective Dome Volume:
Use (-) for Dome and (+) for Dish.
0cc
Deck Clearance:0.0475 in.
Compressed Gasket Thickness:0.080 in
Number of Cylinders: 8
CALCULATE
Compression Ratio :9.87 : 1

costs of decking Vs new rods and balance, however no need to touch block
running 308 pistons with CH of 1.68" would yield piston to be 0.0175" proud of block deck and with 0.050" gasket you would get same compression ratio

all interesting

Just remember you need that .040" clearance between the top of the piston and the head.

Piston out of the bore isn't a problem if you run a thicker head gasket and maintain that clearance. The Holden V6 ecotec motor runs the pistons out of the top of the block but also runs a .061" head gasket to compensate and maintain that clearance.

The cut down grub screw managed to drop on garage floor and it disappeared somewhere, had to cut another 8mmx16mm grub screw down to approx. 8.5mm length, drilled 1.5mm hole for the reduced oil flow, then Loctite into thread, then ground it back to restore the annulus
glad thats finished
block needs scrub up tomorrow
now to get rid of the block for decking
