Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows what colour is the ground for the coil on my 304, one is red the other brown.

I assume brown is ground and red is power but want to be sure before I slap the intake back on.

Cheers

I think your assumption on the colours is correct. However, I wouldn't be leaving the coil installed in its original location. Relocate it to the passenger strut tower in case you have to replace it again in the future. You just need to extend the wires and use a longer distributor -> coil lead. For example, the relocated coil on my wife's VS Clubsport:

The RED goes to the IGN switch and the BROWN to the ignition module.
The ign module controls the spark via timing derived from the hall effect sensor in the distrib.

Thanks for that info, still lots for me to learn it seems!
So the wires on my coil are red and black so safe to assume the black to brown and red to red is the right configuration?
Also, I don't think my dizzy has a hall effect in it as it's the three-wire dizzy. Do you by chance know where the crank angle sensor is located on the series 1-2 VS 304s?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Lowe.
The 3-pin distributor is from VR and early VS 304’s.
There is no crank sensor as such. The timing is generated from the distributor
driven by the gear on the camshaft.
( I believe late VS and early VT with the 304 had a 4-pin distributor which had two sensors inside).

Oh perfect, one less thing to worry about then, thanks again for your help!

If you have a multimeter. Do a continuity test. Put 1 probe to engine or body( whatever has better ground) and probe cables with the other till it beeps.
