Correct, fuel is going in. But no unused fuel coming out the other end of the rail

Does the dipstick also smell fuelly? Plus oil gone black really fast?

Possibly fuel reg has blocked, giving high fuel pressure, over fuelling, and killing a pump in the process.

Just sprayed start ya bastard straight down the gob and didn't even attepmt to fire. I'm assuming that rules out a fuel problem since it should have atleast tried to fire in some way

....Was running perfectly fine and just died on him.....

The only times my VS Calais V8 died on me, while it was running perfectly, has always been an ignition coil failure. Other common spark issues (ignition module, hall effect sensor in the distributor and so on) have always given some warning before failing completely. Guess it depends on whether or not you believe the person who sold you the car was being honest about why it wasn't running.
