nothing wrong with helping the guy out, thats what these forums are all about...
but people suggesting what he "needs" without thinking it through first doesnt help anyone
most of the things suggested to PSYKO have been the common problems associated with this model and therefof the most common "fixes" for those symptoms, so the places where you would look first. unfortunatly for someone who isn't that familiar with cars/mechanics it's not a simple task to do these checks. but he's certainly not shy to try
if you actually read through the entire thread, you'll note that he's not the only one with these issues. but as you will read, different things have fixed different cars, so similar symptoms can be caused by a range of problems. i too have a VS ecotec with issues, although i've just been to lazzy to actually fix whats wrong with it. it's just costing me more in gas money.
i certainly won't "sell" him a tune if he doesn't want it. if he does have a early tune with known cold hesitation issues i can get him a standard tune with the factory fixes for very little. if he's keen i can get him a better tune if he so wishes. really it's one thing we haven't looked at yet.
My series 1 VS does the same thing. On cold mornings i back out the driveway then put it in D and drive up the road. Everytime i do this it hesitates as i put the throttle down but once i back off and slowly go again its fine, and perfect the rest of the day. Its just such a bugger to take the memcal out to check my number.
no need, just pull of the kick panel off and the memcal code will be printed on the side of the PCM.
