Ah, of course the actuator is at the bottom so there is movement there when using the handbrake.
Nevertheless I feel there may be a problem with the pad surfaces not being circular, and/or not being centred in the drum if the adjustment at the top is wound out a long way to make up for the 10mm, or so, smaller diameter that VN_SS_CM, and possibly cuzzy69 ,have on their modded shoes.
vs inner and vt outer shoes. used **** pads and im sure the inner disk is worn. caused a few issues like lack of adjustment and binding. i shaved the pads a bit and have a good hand brake now. will install the vented soon and redo with new parts. i had a diff seal leak so the hand brake pads on one side are fk..ed. lol. follow the instructions should be good!!! i also installed modded return springs for the handbrake cable at the rear left and right to keep the cable tight.

Have you got copies of this bracket?
The bracket is the cast iron one that the caliper pins slide in. I had to do a lot of gumtree searching to find these over a long time. As well as the hsv discs that i put on were original.
The stock discs on vt/x/y/z's are solid and are 286 mm...you can get them in ventilated too ...but the hsvs are 315.

On my vr I have 315mm discs but it is using a bracket I made to fit the stock hubs .There was enough clearance for the 18mm discs .The adapter hub bracket pushed the stock cast iron bracket/caliper out the required distance but it also moved the stock cast bracket outboard enough to put it in the middle of the 315 disc...that was over 7 years ago.
I originally had 16 inch wheels on the car and the banjo connection with the 315s just made contact with the edge of the wheel so I had to fit at least 17s to clear but I had plans for bigger 343 fronts with brembos so I didn’t care and eventually put ve ss 18s on and it’s still going strong today.

G’day Mark,
I have tried to work out how to send you a pm, won’t work. I don’t think it’s because I’m an old fart.

As part of building a new, slightly shortened diff for my VS ute, I’d like to run your upgrade kit please Mate.
I run 16” VE chasers on it for daily duties, so I don’t want to go monster size, just the better handbrake set up you mention and basic VT caliper/rotor set up would be all I need.

Cheers,
Craig.
