Hey everyone,

I recently bought a 2002 VXII Commodore. When I went out this morning, I went to overtake someone on the highway then the check engine light came on and the car went into limp mode and I pulled over.

Turned the car off and it went away. (No problems after that)

I drove the car 200kms after buying it on the highway and didn't have a single problem with it.

Does anyone know what could have caused this?

Car is a V6 btw.

Thanks

I’d take it to your mechanic and get it scanned for codes , that may pin point what happened

I did ask if it was possible to pull a code. Their response was since the light is gone it is unlikely they can get a code.

Is this true?

I would have thought the ECM would have stored the code

They proberly couldn't be fucked ...there is a write up on here if you do a search on how to bridge the pins on the scanning port to get codes ...

The codes stay in the history for a certain amount of time.

Thanks everyone,
Did spark plugs, a throttle body clean (it was caked up) and air filter.

I will give it a go on the highway. If it trips the Engine light again I'll see if someone can get me that code.

She's a fantastic little car and want to fix it asap.

Thanks again to everyone who replied.

Could be a det sensor I would amagine the engine might go into limp mode if the car was detonating or the the sensor was playing up ....also if it has sensor on the catolyc converter and to much fuel is igniting in there

And don't trust him look for codes I took some advice from ppl of this forum without looking for codes saying it's most likely this or that usually this replaced those things without checking codes ddnt solve the problem checked for codes was something completely different replaced that part even though someone on here told me I needed to do something even more involved to fix it and wellah code went away with a 20 bucks part an hour's labour other guy sujested would of needed a trans soecialist
