Could get a milder more supercharger oriented cam?
Bit late to the party with this thread, but have you taken the time for a trip out to York? Go see Mark from Mark’s Workshop. A nice drive and he can layout one hell of a plan. Knows what he is talking about and has built some of WA’s toughest cars.lol supercharger...that may be a few years down the track
Atm I'm talking to so many people and getting so much different advice that its a little hard to get a clear path (as well as sifting through the crappy tradesmen around my area). The original idea was to get 400 at the wheels but I'm getting the idea that I might be thinking of numbers too much rather than the drive. I'm just gonna be a stop sign to stop sign dude just enjoying the drive. Not into burnouts and dragging etc but I also want it to sound tough. So I've been talked into torque is king and that a stock cam is hard to beat for torque. The cam choice really is the challenge to the puzzle.
I went to a performance shop last week and his recommendation was to do the exhaust, 3.9 gears and a stall converter...give it a tune and see how I go with it. He was saying that every one of those steps will produce a different car and the cam may not even be needed (being a daily as well).
Then I speak to another guy that says 400 at the wheels isn't an issue even though most people are saying its a stretch (as a daily) without head work etc. It can be done but drivabilty may be an issue.
The transmission guy was pretty heavily warning me that 400hp is the upper limits of these transmissions...
so... I think the next step forward is following the performance shops advice...I'll get the 3.9's in...in a few weeks..then a converter and cai...get a tune and see how it goes. I was going to try and avoid the excess tunes but I'll try it this way and if it need a cam (which I know it will lol ) then I'll just outlay for the extra cam tune.
Only a few good ones left in Perth.Firstly, a stock cam isn’t the best for torque. An aftermarket cam in the mid 220’s will give you more power and torque EVERYWHERE. And if going for a histall, you’re free to go a little larger with the camshaft and you won’t notice any loss in torque.
You won’t get 400hp without head/cam alterations. Can be done cam only but you’ll lose driveability and manners.
When you have it tuned make sure they don’t tuner lock the pcm. Mines tuner locked and the bloke went out of business a couple of years back. It’s a **** tune too - having it fixed shortly though.
As for the transmission, find another transmission builder. The bloke obviously has no idea. You can build these things to take incredible amounts of torque/hp. Just not many people know how to properly. Transmission builders are like tuners - very difficult to find a good one thats willing to put the time and effort in to make it work for YOUR situation.
