Update -

Rotors arrived yesterday, 4.5 weeks later,
I cleaned the surface/anti rust oil off them
And gave them a spray with Mat Black High Temp Engine paint just around the hub, to stop them looking crappy [rustry] after a while,
[I did the Rears the same]
I only spray them black so you dont see the brake dust.

So I did Front Brakes today,
Pulled the Callipers off, and pulled them down,
Disk Pads out
Shims out
Pistons out [blew them out with compressed air, careful of the fingers when you blow them out.]
Piston Boots out
Seals out
Slide Pins out
Slide Pin boots out
And Cleaned them with all in Degreaser, them blew them dry with compressed air.

I might add, yet again, the Front Pads were siliconed in the calipers,
Just like the Rears were !
I guess it helps them from rattling, someone must of known what they were doing, hmm, maybe not !

I also found a stuffed Shim, as it looked like it had been scrapping on the Disk at some time,
However, I did have a couple spare for the VY, and used one of them.

After everything was dry,
Reassemble the Calipers and the re-fit to the knuckle,
Bled each side with the help of the one who must be obeyed,
She likes the Pumping action on the Peddle, [That mental image there !]
Oh, sorry off track for a minute !

Moving right along !
With the assistance with my lovely [Wife] apprentice bleeding the brakes,
and locking everything off with nice clean fluid passing through,
then hosing off/down the calipers in case there was any brake fluid that may get slung on to the paintwork while road testing.

Road tested it, and the end result it fantastic, Brakes perfect now, pulls up straight,
as it had the old steering shake under brakes.
Assuming warped Disks/Rotors, I will get them machined and store them aside for a rainy day,
the best tool for doing Caliper Overhauls, is the Brake Line Clamps [Image 04]
I though about re-painting the Calipers silver again, but I would say they need to be sand blasted to do it properly,
Maybe I will ask Santa for a Sand Blaster kit/adaptor.

Left side only displayed -
Image 01 Before pull down - Rusty old Rotor
Image 02 After re-assemble - Clean Caliper and New Rotor
Image 03 After re-assemble - as above different angle
Image 04 Brake Line Clamps

The only thing left is the Centre Bearing,
Hopefully that will arrive next week
[which will be 5 weeks since ordered, as I purchased the Centre Bearing prior the Rotors].

Do the rotors come off like on a regular Commodore? Or did you have to undo the hub nut?

Rotors slide off the same as Std Rotors,
May have to wire brush the hub area, and a spray with WD40, and some times need a little persuasion/help, with a rubber mallet,

When I got them off, I wire brushed the hub, then put some anti-sieze grease on the ring of the hub so they don’t rust on again.

Update -

Centre Bearing arrived today,
Purchased on the 14 September, Delivered today 25 October,

I spent the Afternoon installing the unit,
The one thing I did notice, the tail shaft had already been marked,
So you would assume it's been replaced before.

Well I know it was replaced before, because "the Torx Bolts in the Centre CV joint were only hand tight",
I kid you not !!!
I undid the bolts with my fingers.
So you can guess my Reaction/Comments.
So when I got the Tail Shaft out,
It looked like a Bush Mechanic had relaced the existing centre bearing,
The Front Sling Ring was bent, the rear Sling Ring was also a bit out of shape,
And I then checked the bolts holes and flanges for damage,
But that was ok.

After getting the old bearing off the shaft, and everything cleaned up,
I had to panel beat the both Slinger Rings [Front and Rear], and straighten them out,
And ended up not to bad in the end, well better than they were.

When every thing was dry,
Tapped the -
Front slinger ring on,
Then the Centre Bearing, [with a thin film of grease on the shaft and Bearing],
Then lightly tapped it home,
Then Rear Slinger Ring,
Then the CV Joint, [I had to open the seal clamp, so the rubber boot would slide on ok without splitting it]
Then re-fitted the seal clamp,
Then the CV Shaft Circlip,
I packed some extra grease in the CV joint, as It looked a bit lite on,

It was just like a Jigsaw, and every piece fell into place.
Cleaned up and went for a Road Test
The Road test took almost an hour, 60km/h, 80 km/h & 100 km/h
Very please with the result, and drove fantastic,
So Its ready to get the Roadworthy, and to Transfer it to me,
Possibly a couple of small road trips. [Test Drives]
Then its ready for the Weekend krusing [No Pun Intended] :p to Mansfield and High Country
eg: Craigs Hut, where they Filmed "The Man From Snowy River", and other scenic sights]

I was reluctant to do this project, but I guess I had do so something during lock down, and keep the grey matter active,

Next will be Servicing the Transmission,
and changing the oil in the Front Diff, Transfer Case and Rear Diff,

Edit:
Film Clip Added of the Old Centre Bearing,
Images Added of the New Centre Bearing.

You're sounding very charitable now. Hope the next owner appreciates this vehicle that has had some love.

Are the front drive shaft splines nice and tight? Mine were getting very sloppy and I could feel them taking up clearances (backlash) when I powered on and off.

Sold it in the same state, since I was sick of spending $$$ on my Addy and there were many other expensive rectifications that were best dealt with by the Holden dealer that I sold it to to buy a VF. I've said it before, but it's the only car my wife and myself regret selling. It seems to be dead now, or maybe has moved home away from WA.
The drive shaft issue was starting to develop at around 100k km, manifesting as a grumbling/grinding when I put the power on turning right. I reckon this had been masked for some time by the holed muffler giving it's own vibration through the seat of my pants. I had put it down to the healthy V8 engine until I worked it out.

Again, my example had not been looked after by the first owner.

Thank you.
I am a bit of a Car Nut, My Super6 VY Calais is not quite Showroom condition,
but I do get asked some questions about it, "how old is it", "it still looks new", "how many k's it done",
and people can not believe it,
I like things to be working correctly as they should be.

For what I can gather from the multiple/same Business Cards under the Back seat, and Service Records ofthe Adventra,
I am tipping it was a Winery Reps Car in its early days in King Valley [Central East Victoria], as you can also see where i recon a bottle of red wine was possibly spilt on the carpet, and soaked through to the underfelt, [well it does look like Red Wine, and not a Chainsaw Massacre Car, one would hope ], and then it had been serviced a couple of times in Ocean Grove, then the service records were not kept up todate after 119,000 k's
And ended up in Ballarat, after all of that.
The Original Registration was cancelled on the 2/1/2015 , possible one of the owners moved, and didnt recieve the renewal,
as its got rego plates on it now approx. 6 years old.

Its gone in for the Roadworthy this afternoon, and possible get it back tomorrow,
Then I can transfer it to me, as its still the PO name while it was being repaired,
lucky I knew him through a work colleague, as they trusted my word/honesty, that It would be driven while being repaired, apart from road testing.

I can understand why some people are not car minded to keep maintenace on their cars,
As it does take a bit of time, and money, and where do you go who you can trust,
so they dont have their hand in you back pocket, by spinning yarns to make more work.
I have 7 Cars in the family to look after now, never a dull moment.

Back to the Adventra, yes it will be a great car,
but I am going to try get my moneys worth with heading the High Country, and enjoy the dirt tracks, [Not River Crossings],
Places where only AWD's / 4x4's can go.
Well that's the Plan/Goal.

Late 80’s Hilux Snorkels fit onto the Adventra perfectly. They even have a recess for the antenna. Then creek crossings can happen.
