my VZ has the same issue, usually starts great and without issue but every so often there will be a time where it does not start. always thought is was the ignition barrel or starter motor. VZ models tend to have trouble with the from what i have heard

OK, mine is starting to do the same.
Usually starts every time no trouble, but every now and again I get the dreaded click from the starter, or, it will simply keep turning over without firing.
I have a new barrel so I would have to discount the barrel theory.

This started about 3 years ago and I initially got a new remote from the thieving locksmith along with a new starter which is still on the shelf, then as recently as 3 months ago it started playing up again, so I fitted a new battery to the remote, then 2 weeks ago it started playing up again so I changed to the other remote with no luck.

What I have noticed is if I am lazy with the turn on of the key, I can get the dreaded click, so my first advice is turn the key hard, however, I have found it does NOT play up in any way if I get into the car, insert key, close door and fit seat belt, THEN hit the key to start.

Meaning if I wait 3 seconds or more before starting, no trouble.

Just my findings.

interesting view, it could be quite possible that this might work. it does not really happen that much so i am not too worried about it, thanks for letting me know and will keep this in mind if it starts playing up

I have a problem with my vz v6 struggling to start sometimes. It will turn over but won’t start. If I put my foot on the accelerator and pump it a bit it will eventually start and then it’s fine.

So far I have:
Serviced and changed all fluids
New air filter
New fuel filter
Cleaned MAF
Replaced MAF
Checked for vacuum leaks
Replaced all spark plugs
Checked all coils
Replaced All Coils
Replaced fuel pump relay
Replaced Fuel Pump assembly
Checked fuel lines
Cleaned throttle body
Replaced Oxy sensors
Replaced Crank angle sensor
Replaced Cats
Ran 2 lots of Injector Cleaner through two tanks of premium
Had ecu, bcm, pim checked by specialists and there are no faults
Replaced key

Mine was doing the same thing, it was the DFI module under the coils.
