I used to work at GMH in the late 70's -early 80's . I remember when the Commodore was first put into production we were all excited as they started to roll off the production line . They were all lined up outside in the holding car park waiting to be delivered to the Holden dealers . on the other side of thr factory were the Commodores that were completed except for the seats which in their place was the spare tyre . Temptation got the better of me and i decided to take one for a " test " drive . I started the Commodore put it int drive and planted the foot . Needles to say i fell backwards of the spare wheel and lying flat on my back proceeded to plough into another Commodore . So yes i think i was the first guy to prang a Commodore ( or two )

You are wrong. GMH crash tested VB's long before you 'drove' one. ;) And from what I have heard, several Holden engineers had plenty of (admitedly component failure induced) accidents during development of the VB.

from memory, one of the first Comm crashes was where one P Handlingburger (yep him ex MD) who was out in a prebuild VB in the Flinders Ranges
went smack up the arse of a Stato which was pulling a trailer with spare tyres fuel etc ........it was an 'ouch' moment
they drove the VB back to Engineering at the 'Bend with about 20mm toein
and about 10° POSITIVE camber and tore up a set of tyres in the process...

oh and me?
I worked at the 'Bend and Dandenong in Finance and Supply and Traffic
and Enginneering and General Accounting from '77 until late 86
From a not very illustrious start in the foundry at the 'Bend countiing
engine blocks and gearbox cases coming out of the sandboxes
I ended up a 'graded' Section head responsible for a budget
and I could sign in or out cars, engines etc

cheers
