What diff is this from

Hi i bought a hot rod with a m78 diff that i think is holden , any help identifying it and what it came from would be much appreciated.
P/N 870a=400s=na
ratio 2.77 ser no 4388

2.77 ratio isn't a stock Commodore ratio unless maybe from a VK or maybe VL but those were M75 diffs. 2.77 could be from a Ford which used the same diffs.

Or I'm completely wrong?

Borg warner had 2.77 gears....So yes, Ford and Chrysler....Not sure about VK and VL Commodore though

Would say ford or chrysler at a guess if 2.77 gears.

Checked what stud pattern or type of brakes & handbrake to determine what it is from?

Hot rod my guess is Ford diff.

it was advertised as ford 9 bolt but when i measured it i thought it was too narrow and has the buick v6 in it so thought it may be commodore

It is ford , I didn't check the pcd of studs and it's about 114mm . Sorry for the trouble guys. I have searched the numbers on the tag as i thought it would be easy, but found nothing . I wanted to buy a limited slip centre so i wanted to confirm what it is . From what i found the 277 is 25 spline axles not 28 so i don't know if the centre will fit.

25spline would be something really old especially if drum brake
