It makes perfect sense to put the battery in the rear - nearer to the fuel tank.

Think there is more chance of an exhaust system causing problems with a fuel tank, than a battery located in the boot..... ;)

That was a lot of money for the ve development $1 billion dollars for just moving the battery from front to back of the car. ;)
GM Detroit had to get their profits out of the country tax free somehow.

Doubt there is any “kaboom” risk in mounting the battery in the rear boot of a vehicle separated from the petrol tank by metal panels :p

However, vehicle manufacturers are odd beasts …

A battery located in the boot, far away from the heat of the engine bay, is always an improvement as it helps extend the life of the battery. As such it’s a good move…

To counter the above logic, some (all?) vehicle manufacturers have moved the ECU from within a climate controlled cabin into the heat of the engine bay… just to save on a bit of wiring and make production 30 seconds quicker… But doing such can’t help ECU longevity...

There must be balance after all :p
The ECU costs a lot more to replace than the battery and is OEM only so of course they would move it to the engine bay!

On the alloytec motors they went one step further and mounted the ECU straight on the front of the motor, the source of all heat and vibration.

Yes, not the most ideal engineering idea was it.

Like the Opel/Holden Astras with the even better top rear of the engine mounting for maximum heating effect on the ECU.
