Yes, the VE's had the battery in the boot due to weight distribution, and I think they had issues with the battery bringing the front during development of the platform...
That was a lot of money for the ve development $1 billion dollars for just moving the battery from front to back of the car. ;)

Maybe that's why the VE interior is so plastic, because they spent it all on battery relocation :D

Nah not a weight thing, the joke goes that the old engineers finished the engine bay design and a young engineer looked at it and asked where the battery is going to go ... then the old blokes looked at each other befuddled before saying it'll have to go in the boot :p:p:p

It has one in the engine bay like normal still, but there's also one in the boot. What's the purpose of this? What's it hooked up to? Is it just to plug in a fridge or something in the back?View attachment 258005

This is surely a piss take??

Of course it is, the truth is, BMW have their batteries in the boot and Holden just copied them.

There was also one about the chev V8, forgetting to put the location for the distributor so they chucked it near the firewall.

It makes perfect sense to put the battery in the rear - nearer to the fuel tank.
Doubt there is any “kaboom” risk in mounting the battery in the rear boot of a vehicle separated from the petrol tank by metal panels :p

However, vehicle manufacturers are odd beasts …

A battery located in the boot, far away from the heat of the engine bay, is always an improvement as it helps extend the life of the battery. As such it’s a good move…

To counter the above logic, some (all?) vehicle manufacturers have moved the ECU from within a climate controlled cabin into the heat of the engine bay… just to save on a bit of wiring and make production 30 seconds quicker… But doing such can’t help ECU longevity...

There must be balance after all :p
