Holden VZ 1 Tonne S Pack 2005 V6 manual
I had same problem in my diff.. Changed the oil with Motul.. GEARff Competition SAE75W140 oil and added the holden lsd additive at same time... No noises at all from diff now and the new oil seems to have given the diff a new lease of life... The Motul oil isnt cheap at $40 a litre ( needing 2 litres)and the Holden additive is $35 but damn it sure does the trick..

I have a 2005 VZ V6 1 Tonner 6 Speed manual, and am experiencing same "clunking" sounds. Especially from gears, 1-2 2-3 and sometimes 3-4 Question is how long does this sort of "mixture" take to have an affect and how long does it last for? Or am i looking in the wrong direction and need to be looking at other factors aswell? Appreciate any advice. Cheers

My VT clunks a lot (its solid coupling) even new trans, new diff, hardly any backlash, new mounts and new suspension its the same. I want to swap out my tailshaft and diff piece for the rubber VY unit or whatever it is, that makes it less apparent.

Not sure why holden makes this rubbish

Ditto on the oil change and holden LSD additive. Mine was chattering a heap at low speeds / carparks / etc. Flushed the diff out, redid the oil, added the anitchatter and after about 140 or so k's it settled down. Still has some slippage if i've been giving it a bit, but it's a cheap first pass to clearing this up before you gut the thing and work it out properly.

2004 holden VZ v6 ute.
Diff clunk

Yea my Diff in a vs v6 ute 1996 auto does the same thing, But its all coming down slack in the drive train. Like other mention going from Drive to reverse does it the most and mines no different, A nice metal on metal clunk sound but if i let it role a little going forward the slack is taken up, am noticing a cluck when going about 60km in second putting foot down and clunk, same if i release throttle and re apply. also accelerating hard then having to brake can have a down change clunk into first.

i have to much slack in the line. Oil might be a solution.

Done 220 000kms, gear box has done 170 000km.

Hey Mate
I Have an 02 VX Clubsport with the exact same thing that you are describing.
slow around corners at idle it had a really rough clunk and some time when slowly coming to a stop at idle in a straight line.
Mine is a 6 speed manual and ive put a twin plate dampened ceramic clutch in it so i thought at first it was just clutch chatter as i was warned when i installed that type of clutch that it was just something i would have to learn to deal with.
Im convinced now that its something to do with the diff. The bad thing is, i had a knocking noise about 12 months ago in the diff so i took it to the shop and they dignosed it to be glazing on the LSD cones. it cost me $800 for the deglazing and i (stupidly) elected not to pay another couple hundred for a full make over (bearing, seals etc) that would come with a warranty.

I think i will replace the oil and put the treatment in and see how it goes. im not fond of diff specialists (or any mechanic for that matter) as i like to do as much myself as i can. unfortunately diffs are a little overwhelming for my basic knowledge so i may be asking around for Recommended diff shops in perth if the Treatment doesnt fix it.

Cheers

Hey guys digging up an old thread here but ive got a similar problem in my m6 vx ss, got a clunk clunk cluck noise when slowing down mostly from 2-1 or when going slow in 1st push the clutch in it will stop, also if i give it a bit of herb round a corner to the right shell spin up then an almighty sort of grinding noise from the rear im guessing my diff is shagged. What are some good diff shops that could have a look around armadale area in perth? or maddington. i dont know if an oil change and additive would help me should i spend some coin and change the oil or does it sound too far gone?

I put some of this in. As well as the additive from Nulon (I think it's called G70 or something like that? It's in a tube)

Check your drive shafts first. I thought my diff was cactus, ended up being the drive shafts.

$30 from a wrecker, new oil and additive, all good now.

All I did was jack it up and put it on stands (double check the stands before getting under a vehicle). I left it in gear, then rotated one wheel at a time, backwards and forwards. That was enough for me to hear/see the shafts clunking.
Once they were off, it was a lot a lot easier to tell, grab each end and turn in opposite directions.
I went and bought an Allen key socket set. Made it a lot easier. (I think it was about an 8mm hex).
I also used loctite when I put the bolts back in,you don't want them coming loose.
