This is probably a pretty broad question, but how many km's are the 5l/5.7's good for?

Assuming in good nic of course, and any known issues that I should be aware of when looking at these particular motors?

Wont be getting a ls1 wagon for 6k , would need at least 10k for an unmolested one , so id be looking for a nice vs wagon or statesman

I thought all VX cars had the sharp pointy headlights, but some I am looking at have teardrop head lights.

Are there significant difference's with these two cars? Mechanical wise? Mostly trying not to grab a bad LS1...

Otherwise the statesman's are really growing on me

Berlina, Calais and Clubsport had the pointy ones - anything below had that teardrop thing going on.

The VXII is the pick generally because it had a bunch of other stuff sorted that the earlier models did not.

I have a Clubsport as my daily and I think it's great for that.

that is flippin tidy for 453,954kms!

my 2 cents:
Aussie Iron V8's generally sound better than yank 5.7's

Do not settle for less than a wagon. The practicality is second to none. Try and squeeze into the 5.7 bracket if you can, well worth it, the LS1 engine is legendary. I couldn't be happier with mine. But if not the 5L will be a great car as well.
