In a luxury car, quiet is much better so maybe it took Holden a while to wake up to that fact?

Quiet exhaust are also better for more mature boy racers since they can fang around public roads without being heard from 5 kms away… just makes sense on many fronts…

But the hoons who love to spin wheels and do donuts are a different breed and I don’t think they’ve matured so not much can help them  Yes it’s an unpopular view especially on this forum but I hate being woken by idiot hoons and their noisy exhausts in the middle of the night:mad:

PS: a nice muted v8 burble is ok as it isn’t “noise”, so I’m not really 122 years old yet :p
Yeah but if I am spending $40k plus on a 6.2L hearing it is nice. Not overly loud but at least make it so people on the street know I have a v8

I first discovered eyesight deterioration tig welding
I first discovered eyesight deterioration when led light upgrades to halogen headlamps became a thing. My night vision recovery times due to those bright white/blue led lights blew way out…

So in such cases I’d find myself wondering where and how tight that oncoming turn was… which is why all these “not for road use” led upgrade kits peeves me off.

But that’s the subject of another thread :p

PS: when I want to upgrade my exhaust, I’ll have to remember where you posted picks of your modded bimodal mufflers as noise ain’t my think while note and burble is :p Maybe you can link to that thread or repose the pics of the mods you made to the bimodals:cool:

I'm not a fan of noise as it's typically associated with a lousy note and even with race car exhausts, my muffler configurations are larger than most to emphasise note over a racket likely to ping the Db meter and cop a noise disqualification. Many times over the years, I've heard people on the pit wall at circuit races commenting how good my cars sound and I find that extremely satisfying.

With a long-standing exhaust note obsession, I got my wife to drive my then stock Redline Ute up the road with the bimodal's open and give a bit of a squirt and although the noise level was pretty good and sounded like a V8, the note I thought was garbage, too raspy, no depth just awful! It's not surprising as the bimodal muffler is actually a rear muffler bypass as the tubing inside on the valve outlet is virtually solid pipe. A deep smooth note takes quite a large body rear muffler with perforated tubes and fibreglass packing and I cut the bimodals open and re-configured the internals.

The end result along with HSV 340 headers, Maloo midpipe and modified x-pipe and custom 2.5" resonators replacing the 2.25" hotdogs, the Ute isn't much louder than the stock bimodal setup, but the note is magic, deep, ultra smooth and refined and still looks relatively stock from the rear. Most bolt on's I think are too loud and droney or the note is lousy for what my ears need to hear in the car and externally.
Yeah that’s why when it comes to a. Aftermarket exhaust I am think 2 1/2 and 3/4 inch system. I’d rather decent noise no drone over loud. Probably a black ops as I don’t have manta/dpe money and I am not planing on a supercharger or cam.

We live in a hot climate where the windows are almost always wound up, I much prefer aircon and the sound of induction which the MSE (mmm sound enhancer) provides. The MSE was factory installed on the 2017 limited editions specials and it’s ann easy retrofit to any car.

But it’s your money, your choice. However if you live for the approval of others, life can get harder as the years move along. Better to do the things you want because you enjoy them and not for the admirations you think they’ll bring ;)

My preference was for a 2017 Director (more luxury but with some balls) though they were hard to locate (at a reasonable price) at the time I was looking. So, as I wanted something from their limited stable, I bought the next best thing which was the Motorsport edition (a little courser but same balls) :p Somewhat juvenile but I still enjoy my imperfect toy when the weather is nice

I can certainly out drive stock VF headlights on high beam and unlit roads and found FG Falcon Series 1 (non-projector) headlights have the best distance for stock halogens, much better than the VF. I've had Narva LED's in a VF and although the spread of light was better and easier to see kangaroos on the open road for example, distance on high beam wasn't greatly improved if at all. Aside from the legal aspects, I wouldn't use Narva LED's again in a VF as they weren't overly beneficial.

Here's a pretty raw quality recording of what the car sounds like with squirt down a back road.

I do it in the middle of the afternoon before feeding the chooks, having me tea, dropping my teeth in a glass of water then off to bed, all before the sun goes down and makes it too difficult for me to see.
Made me laugh

That looks like a fun welding project, have a pair of stock ute mufflers I can throw on the Magnum whilst I weld and grind.
My E3 Maloo mid-section has a H pipe instead of the X pipe.

I first discovered eyesight deterioration tig welding where suddenly I'd lost the knack; welds were crap and I was running offline. I blamed the welder initially and then realised I couldn't see the job properly, just a green glow in the welding helmet and no definition. In went to BOC to buy a new welding helmet and guy recommended one that'll take correction lenses to magnify the work. That fixed my welding issues when I could see the job again! LED lights have helped postpone glasses for the moment anyway!
My welds improved heaps after I got the cataract in my right eye fixed.
Should improve a bit more when I get the left eye fixed, as a bonus I should be able to see the crosshairs through my riflescopes as well.
