    2.78 diff behind a EFI 50ltr?

Just use VHT engine enamel. It's rated to around 300 degrees.

    No faith in young people

I have done that many times before and never had a problem. It keeps things moving when the servo is busy. I have seen others do it many times also. I have always thought that the attendant would be used to it by now and it's not like he is going to stop anyone driving away without paying for it...

Question for Puter people.(as i am not)

I don't think you can do anything about IE doing this. It frustrates me also but the only solution is maybe use Firefox or something. Firefox is good too as it has a lot of cool extensions you can get for it.

I'd go for paint. A bad looking body looks worse than having a set of stockys on.

Why not to tear up the streets - Burnout Penalties in NSW

I can't believe people still need to be told to not do it. Whether or not you get your car snatched from you, I myself don't like the sight of some idiot ripping up rubber outside my local shops or in my street. It makes me cringe most of the time because every time I hear a burnout, I wait for...

    vt auto in a vr?

If you get one from a quality wrecker, they should guarantee the box at least to be in good working order when put in or they should tell you to bring it back. I bought a 5 speed once and he said if it's no good then bring it back. I put it in and it felt like a new gearbox.

    slashed tire

I knew someone recently who was parked at a shopping centre whilst he was working. He came back in the morning and found 3 tires flat. Some tools used a knife and cut off the valves. WHY? Who knows. The whole world is full of questions. There is no answer to why. Young twits come along and see a...

    pplz thought on 202 build

Probably about 80kw. If you are doing that work, you might as well get new over size valves put in. Look at having the transmission rebuilt along with the motor.

    Japanese Whalers

It used to be once said that's what they are for. The Japanese still insist that. The fact is they aren't used for anything but dinner on the table for Japanese who will pay top dollar to eat it. You would also find that most Japanese don't eat whale meat because of the cost.

    Some power, but not much

The VK's didn't come with a relay for the starter circuit to the starter motor solenoid. Have a look if you can find one put in. The associated wiring to the solenoid switch might be the source of the problem. I have repaired a VK's starter circuit wiring before and it was amazing it could ever...

Problem with front stabilizer bar rubbers

I installed a set of Nolathane performance links with bushes and also stabiliser bar bushes (all front) on a VT and they have performed for ages brilliantly. I'm very impressed with them. They aren't hard to install. Just a jack on each side with stands so there is enough room to get a spanner...

    My car keeps blowing fuse

It's a bad idea posting something like that even if you are joking because out of 100 people seeing your post, 20 might think it would be good advise and think nothing else of it. And yes, what it would do IS catch fire or melt away the wiring loom completely at least.

Tata Nano - What do you think?

You'd still be looking at paying $$$ for rego plus stamp duty every year so it wouldn't really make it worthwhile having it as a second car. Besides, most accidents occur under 60km/hr so I would rather hit a car with my Commodore and ding a panel than be in a flying pea like that and have...

    Braided Brake Lines?

The link ADR7/00 APPROVED BRAIDED BRAKE HOSES FOR ALL MODELS - eBay Standard Parts, Holden, Car Parts, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 03-Feb-08 22:32:27 AEDST) The seller, MR Spares, I think he is a sponsor here but can't remember. They look like not bad hoses. This is the guy I have been...

    Braided Brake Lines?

Yeah I'm pretty sure these ones on ebay were approved. I will replace mine soon with braided ones and I figured why not because ordinary rubber hoses cost 60 bucks each anyway.

Tata Nano - What do you think?

It's a bit too expensive to pay for a bit of scrap metal and a motor the size of my lawn mower.

    Braided Brake Lines?

I have thought about replacing my front brake hoses because they are getting old now and I had a car once that had blistered hoses and would blow up in bubbles when braking hard which was scary to find out. Look on ebay. There is a guy selling them and other car parts for about $130 a set for...

    Some power, but not much

Get your battery tested. Just because it reads 12v doesn't mean that it's ok. If an alternator regulator fails, it can peak and if it does then it starts to cook the battery and burn some acid but also makes your headlights brighter too and shortens their life but don't worry about the bulbs for...

Ever been stuffed around over the net?

Something like that happened to me once. This guy and his girfriend had two young daughters and I felt sorry for the children being in a crap situation so to brighten them up and give them a bit of a gift, I gave them a Nintendo with about 8-9 games. I think they ended up selling it to Cash...

    vh commodore 308 HELP

The water pump probably just needs a new gasket. Use some loctite #3 on the gasket face when putting on. This helps the gasket make a real good seal. The pump may have corroded away as alloy pumps don't last forever. If it's the right side rocker cover, you might need to unbolt the EGR valve...

    some vk advice.....

Yeah true, they are easy to work on but only after you familarise yourself on how motors work and what parts are what. I used to think exactly the same thing about older cars and thought modern cars were all complicated with their computers and injection. After going ahead and pulling apart late...

    vh commodore 308 HELP

I had two early Commodore original coils pack up on me recently. One coil took me two days to find it was causing spark problems. It drove me nuts until I found the coil failed. It was leaking oil for some time and the primary and secondary internal windings were shorting with each other causing...

    vh commodore 308 HELP

You might have to dig around and find the tacho wire. It might have been taken off for a reason. Gah B&M shifters. Anything will fit if you want it to. There is kits for the trimatics to fit them easier but personally I think they are gay. Especially what makes it even worse is the drive...

    Some power, but not much

Good stuff ;) Next step, alternator regulator! From experience, it sounds like a faulty alternator is killing your battery. I had a customer who had noticed their volt guage peaking to 16 for a bit and then lowering to normal, around 13-14 volt. Basically it turned out to be a cactus volatge...

    Alternator Rebuild

A full rebuild requires more than basic tools. Tools like a bearing puller and press are required. They aren't difficult to work with but without a press or puller, it's a waste of time doing an overhaul.

    Some power, but not much

I also should mention not to rely too much on dash volt guages as there is voltage drop and especially in older cars where wiring might have been butchered about. Test the battery directly with a volt meter or multi meter. Results would be much different and more trusting.
  31. M

    Some power, but not much

If you can, get a 2-3 metre jumper lead with small crocodile clips on each end. 10 amp cable is enough. Connect it to the starter motor solenoid (hot wire it) and turn the ignition on until the dash lights show. Next have a mate connect it to the positive battery terminal whilst you are in the...

    vh commodore 308 HELP

The tacho works from the pulse coming from the negative side of the coil. If it's connected then the dash guage might be faulty and would involve a speedometer place to repair it unless if you are good with your hands and can fix it yourself.

    vh commodore 308 HELP

Hi, 1 Pretty sure it would be a black motor 2 It sounds like the original Bosch electronic distributor. The brown wire you mention is actually pink in colour. It's probably just dirty making it look brown. This wire connects to the positive side of the coil and the green wire goes to the...

    vk efi distributor problem

The EST carb rotors are different to the EFI and earlier electronic distributors. I have been there before and the carb one wouldn't fit, so just go to the shop and buy a rotor to suit a EFI VK. About $15.

Dumb things you've done working on a car?

I replaced my link bushes once on the front of the car by using a set of vice grips and a spanner and drove about 3000K's until I found the vice grips still clamped to the link rod! I couldn't believe it. I also lost a 9/16 spanner which I thought had fallen from the car onto the road. Months...
