Does anyone know how to unhook the wiring harness from the drivers side rocker cover?
Passenger side is a neat clip arrangement, easy but the drivers side seems blind and it blocks some of the rocker cover screws.

Hi Guys,

first time on this forum but got a quick question.

Has anyone ever come across any problems after they changed the timing with sensors still going off? I currently did the timing chains and gears, and i am getting error codes popping up on my ve v6. the codes im getting are P0014, P0021 and P0024. Indicates that the camshaft position sensors are faulty on bank 2(Both) and 1 on bank 1. Replacd both on bank 2 and had the software updated recently, but the error mesages are still there. Anyone ever had this problem with the alloytec engines?

Hello, did you replace the tensioners while you were in there? I had to wait for about 2-3 weeks for Holden at Newstead (Brisbane) to get some tensioners from the states. Pretty much no Holden in Australia had many left when I was doing mine. The guys there told me there was heaps of failures, therefore the shortage of this part, also why they have a revised part number. Not sure if this will throw a code or not tho.

The other thought is did you double check the timing alignment. I must have checked mine 10 times before I put it all back together. I also turned the engine over a few times manually, then backwards to the start just to check nothing jumped.

Good luck with it.

If anybody out there doing this job in the Brisbane area wants to borrow the flywheel locking tool and crackshaft socket (not really needed), harmonic balancer puller plus a tool I made to push the balancer back on, I'd be happy to share.

Cheers.

yeah had the tensioners aswell. we did the whole works (chains, guides, tensioners and gears) even changed cam positions sensors because the code kept popping up.

not sure if this can cause it but we changed the oil and there was heaps of sludge inside the engine. put a bottle of sludge cleaner to drain it out. put new full synthetic oil (penrite 5w-40) and then have been running her for 1k. were guessing it could be the oil and sludge inside the engine that could trigger the codes to appear. gonna drain this new oil in 1.5k later with 2 bottles of sludge cleaner and then try.

HOlden advised after updating andf flashing the computer that the cam actuators could be faulty. Bit odd this happening after changing the timing chains and stuff. Any idea what else could be causing these codes to appear and also anyone ever have the same issue?

hey vt_on_20s, man we just done the chains in a vz sv6 and now its all back together the car turns over really slow even with a fully charged battery, u wouldnt happen to have any idea wat is goin on with it?
oh and BTW, the procedure u just stated,( turning the cams so the flat spot on the rear the cam is facing the top then installing a chain/guide, then turning the crank to install the next chain/guide etc) would that reset the cam timing back to stock as i think somehow the timing is retarded.
cheers in advance

Done a couple now. You don't need any of the so called special tools and you can get the full chain kit for around $650 from ebay. Chains, tensioners, gears and runners

I am currently rebuilding by late 06 alloytec out of a vz (WD4).

I went to holden to price all new parts including timing chains, tensioners, seals, head gaskets etc.

They have me a written quote for just under $2,000 however this quote came with all the part numbers aswell.

Now, Holden is part of general motors, they're part numbers are are same world wide and this engine is also used in a 06 - 11 Cadillac STS.

I am currently waiting for my order from GM Parts Direct which cost me just under $600 AUS shipped. which has exactly all the same parts and part numbers.

So with the exchange rates as they are now i would highly recommend importing any parts at this stage in time.

spac are these the numbers?

Why are you replacing the oil pump and valve covers?
