Dont use cotton wool, use newspaper to insulate from heat.
Its cooling down now anyway but blundstone sell the best boots with heat resistant soles. Most other brands are **** and melt. I know because we have to stand on hot presses at work around 150c and blundstones have no issues. All the fancy pu sole boots melt.

I'll just use the boots I've got, wait till they die and go get a comfortable pair. Hopefully making enough to not to have to look at prices of boots!
