Hi everyone,
Thanks to all the great posts on here, my VS ute is going much better than it ever has.
I have replaced the injectors, O2 sensors (and made sure the earth was great), thermostat to the ECU, new plugs, air filter, leads, cleaned the throttle body and pelham and of cause pressure tested the fuel lines and compression tested the engine.
I still have poor fuel use and sometimes rough idle.
Ahhhhhh
Any thoughts would be great
Also my fuel tank does not seal. I have replaced the cap but still not shh when I open it.
Also How can I check the crank senor, could this be the problem
Again thanks, The last time I worked on cars was 20 years ago and thing have changed.

How bad is your fuel economy?

Is it a V6?. They're not the smoothest engine at idle by nature. Rough as guts actually.
They all seem to idle with the occasional hiccup or cough now and then.

It is getting around 100 clicks to 15 lt
The idle is really smooth 85 % of the time then just starts getting rough for a frw mins and then all good

15l/100km sounds a little high for a V6. Unless you're a leadfoot. Then it would be about right.:driving:

The shhh from the tank when opening the lid. Mine doesn't unless its hot weather.
If the crank angle sensor was playing up you'd know about it!
Could someone have fitted a different ratio diff from standard?
A new set of coils might help smooth the idle.
Are you running it on E10?
Plugs gapped correctly?

Not a lead foot I think the diff is original
I should have said I have new coils and I gapped the plugs.
It was at 20 lt per 100 before I started the work.
I should mention it smells rich and I am getting no codes.

Smells rich? Yeah there's a problem there somewhere.

Did you say you replaced the engine coolant temperature sensor?
They can get a buildup of insulating crud on them from the coolant and read wrong.
Can fix them by cleaning with a bit of emery paper if they're not pitted.

MAF sensor clean?

Injector seals leak?

Intake manifold gasket seals OK?

Exhaust system OK? No crushed pipes, blocked cat? Exhaust manifold gaskets leaking?

Hi thanks.
Ok I changed the coolant sensor(the one for the ECU) I am on my way out to get some maf cleaner although it looks clean I guess you can't tell by eye.
All injectors our new with new seals in fact all seals replaced when I did the injectors
All exhaust ok i think....I tested it by blocking and the car stalled.
How do you check the cat

what engine oil u using mate the best 1 to use is pentrite 30 or 40 the 1 that says 15/40 on it.

I just put in some 15 w 40 last night with a flush
Could it be the plain old thermostat

if its still stalling check ur leads and hopefully they are put in its correct position
