WARNING: Cam followers must have good surface finish and correct radius.
Lubricate well, avoid high RPM for the first 2 hours.
To avoid coil-binding, after the tappets are set, check that the valve-
spring can be compressed at least an extra .050" after full lift has
been achieved. This will stop the valve springs from binding
Degreeing Your Camshaft Using Lift At TDC Method
(For Pushrod Engines)
First you must establish Top Dead Centre accurately. Once TDC is achieved, with
camshaft in Place insert a Cam Follower into number one Intake Lifter bore.
Now place a pushrod onto that cam follower and mount a Dial Indicator so it is in the
same plane as the pushrod.
Make sure the cam follower is on the heal (bottom) of the lobe and Zero the dial
indicator.
For chain driven camshafts, rotate the camshaft in the same direction of Crankshaft
rotation until the lift at TDC stated on your Cam Card is achieved. Now you can
install the chain and sprocket set.
For gear driven camshafts such as Holden 6cyl, the camshaft will rotate in the
opposite direction to the crankshaft
