Am I right in saying we cannot legally turbo the VF?

I slid on ice and hit a tree in my Jeep. I had 3.5 inch lift, with coil spacers on the front, ext shackles on the rear. I had modified handbrake cables that mounted myself. I also had 31s. None of this was reported nor was it legal. My claim went through no questions asked. That was with NRMA and i live in Tasmania.

Where does the buck stop?

Appears you quoted my post then deleted the reference.

Ultimately, from the insurer's point of view, the buck stops with the insured. The insurance contract is between those two parties only.....no one else.

Perhaps you might have a claim against a third party, say a party that issued you with a roadworthy certificate if that was wrongly issued, but that would be something you would need to pursue yourself, independently of throwing at the insurer.

What does your insurance PDS say about being roadworthy ?

Where does the buck stop? From the engineer who has mod-plated my car and given me a roadworthy?
Yes, that one right there. That's as far as you need to go. As long as everything you've done is in the report; that's it, complete.

Apologies for my misunderstanding, I thought you said you'd had it mod-plated and done further mods which haven't been certified.

Yeah there have been cases of engineers being stricken off the registry & the vehicles they've certified being de-certified; but you'd have to be ridiculously unlucky to have that happen IMHO (and all of us with engineered cars are in the same boat with that one).

I thought some of the large car manufacturers found that turbos helped to reduce the emissions, but I wonder if that was because they were reducing the capacity of the engine when they added the turbo.
Mostly that. To oversimplify; they have to de-tune to pass emissions, and then they need to force-feed to make up for the lack of power. And as you've said, when it's turbocharged it can run like a 1.2L engine when there's no load and run like a 2.4L engine when there's load and you're putting an atmosphere of boost into it.

I have a cracked wiper plenum in the ute. Does that mean NRMA won't cover me if i have an accident?

EGR system mate, that's what it's there to do....Because NOx forms primarily when a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen is subjected to high temperature, the lower combustion chamber temperatures caused by EGR reduces the amount of NOx the combustion generates.

Aren't engineers effing clever?! They thought of it, so we didn't have to.

Can you point out where the EGR system is on an LS3?

As many would know, I have the W557 package on the 2017 HSV. No way would it pass emissions in any State nor would a few other things in South Australia. In SA, you cannot make changes to the ECU, camshaft, cats and intake manifold. Period. No engineer Cert can overcome those things. So my car is unroadworthy according to the transport regulation in this State. My insurance company is happy with the mods but like all of them they have a get out clause about roadworthy.

But having said all that, I have searched Google using many terms and cannot find anything about a company rejecting a claim based on Walkinshaw mods and a very minute amount with regard to other mods (such as undersize brakes). With thousands of Walk's, Harrops etc on the road you would think the net would have something. So while I am sure Insurance companies could refuse if push came to shove but they don't seem to do that. Naturally, certain things would make them look harder (single vehicle accident, DUI, driving a car than you licence does not allow) but I am willing to take the risk until somebody points me to a link where an Insurance company refuse a claim on a Walkinshaw package having been specifically (as in W557) notified about the mod. My car is brand new, looks stock with the only external mods being the exhaust and I would find it hard for the exhaust to cause a claim.
