Hahaha, yeah, nah hope not…

It’s so easy to unplug the battery loom from the x499 connector and push the live end into a plastic connector I have which will insulate and isolate power from the trailer connector when the CTEK charger not in use… So for the moment nothing should ever happen unless I’ve had a few too many beers and plug the power loom into the wrong x499 socket, the thin purple/white wire which goes to BCM  A fuse may not help in that situation:eek:

I’ll update the post above
Cheers.

Yes, obviously an inline fuse will be added to the prototype just to be electrically safe as smoke and flame ain’t good… just need to find the one I have hiding in my garage somewhere or pop by the store and pick one up  Better still make the mark 2 adapter using the indicator lead which has the inline fuse… Till then I’m living on the ragged edge :p:p:p

Still looking for/wanting the mating connector for that factory x499 plug… if anyone has hints…
Found this over in the US. it's a blower motor resistor

But not quite a solution.
It's designed for the x499 to plug into.

Oh, and for the OCD among the forum members, you may want to look at how the power lead is bolted to the battery and whether the auxiliary threaded post can be used so that the plastic red cover actually closes nicely when the lead is attached. At the moment mine doesn’t fully close and I don’t want to cut it so version 1.0 will be better :p
I am a proud OCD forum member.

I used the auxiliary threaded post on the positive side and the cover closes "very nice". Just used a galavanized nut and washer I found in the shed.
Check my photo in post #69.

It might be a long shot, but I do recall that Holden actually produced a ‘electric brake harness’ for the VE series (but not for the VF). It might be possible that the same mating connector was used on the VE ‘electric brake harness’?

Yeah thanks for the heads up about the VE loom. I listed Part number 92192052 “Add-on loom for electric trailer brake” in post #54 some pages back.

If any VE owners have such a loom or even just a factory towbar loom, maybe they can compare the x499 VF’s connector to what they have in their VE and post back…

I was going to talk to Holden spares about it today and if they had one in stock go and have a look at the connector or get them to send me a few pictures of it next to a ruler… but other things got in the way so no time… doubt I’ll be able to chase it up in the next few days either :(

I saw that thread, & wondered if that was @Skylarking connectors' other half?
Yeh it's not the same, but I thought a high chance of being the same manufacturer given how it looked!

@Skylarking you may be in luck. Have a look at https://connectors-catalog.sys.yzk....e?forward=7282-6458-40&plist=detail&select=XX

Scroll down and check out the 'mating part numbers' to confirm. I havent measured but sounds about right.

Mostly thanks to @Gmac 2.0 on this thread: https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/vf-commodore-doc-connector.227006/post-3240441
Thanks for the heads up.

Yes on initial browse and memory of previous quick measurements, the x499 female connector does look to be the following part:

https://connectors-catalog.sys.yzk....t_e?forward=7283-5590-40&plist=list&select=05

The mating male connector, which is what’s needed, looks to be the following part:

https://connectors-catalog.sys.yzk....t_e?forward=7282-5590-40&plist=list&select=05

Something to chase up mid week

So I now just need to get out the slide callipers and confirm the measurements of the x499 connector in my car matches the above female connector… Then it’s a matter of finding who stocks these connectors and pins parts down under and ordering the appropriate part numbers (including a female doc connector and pins). hopefully it’s not done in lots of 100’s… otherwise guess I’ll have to deal with some AliExpress seller…

Maybe this local aussie seller can help…

Just had an epiphany, I was getting confused between what is female and male (not a new thing for me, especially since I have offspring attending NSW High School).
Now I see from the images that gender is determined by the terminal shape (giver or receiver), not by the outside plastic shroud.
Looking forward to more advice, my searching skills have not found any local supplier yet.
