Removing the sump on the 3.8 V6

G'day AussieTrev How did you end going with the job? I've read on the the forums here, that you will have to undo and move the steering rack to get the sump out as well, is that true?

how to replace front right guard

I checked my Gregory's No 273, there is no mention off removal of guards. But looks you will have to remove the front bumper and headlight RHS for sure, after that the guard would just be screws and bolts needing to be undone, you can see most of them when you open the bonnet.

    L67 Overheating Problem

Luke Vy l67, The coolant leaking from the thermostat housing cover is common because they warp slightly, it happened to me also those paper gaskets are useless in this case, I ended up using gasket maker as advised here somewhere, problem solved.

    VY V6 Air Con Blues

Mate the grinding noise if that's coming from your compressor from what I've read online that's bad news, and another compressor is the only way around it. Yes it was gas escaping don't make the noise no more cause they ain't any more gas left.

    VY V6 Air Con Blues

There was enough oil to leave a coating on my fingertip and the hissing noise loud enough in the engine bay so it's definitely the problem. Didn't get it fixed 750 is too much just after Christmas and he said the compressor was "probably leaking too" so yeah it's a good price but I'm swapping...

    VY V6 Air Con Blues

I wouldn't think twice to take the part in if I were you, and have them fit it, they'll do it you're a recent customer not someone who just walked in off the street.

    VY V6 Air Con Blues

Well 2 weeks ago my aircon died suddenly after not using the car for 3 weeks straight, just loud hissing noise from behind the dash no cold air at all, turns out was the TX valve, got a quote for $750 to replace that and the drier and a exchange compressor. This valve bolts onto the LHS of...

    Dust leak in cab

Yeah I'll give it a go, I've also noticed a patch of dust on the carpet directly behind where the radio is, so I'll dig around there too. It's frustrating because I've googled it for ages and you come up with nothing besides 4wds leaking dust from their doors etc not the firewall area.

    Dust leak in cab

Hi everyone I've got a vy ute that is leaking dust in the interior, it comes from under the dash in the footwell area on both sides of the car. I've had a look there a few times but can't see no holes or plugs missing, I also have got under the car and can't see no gaps or holes either. It's...

    Ticking lifters gone quiet

Gregp, Mate I recently replaced all my lifters on a vy ecotec just over a month ago, and even I get that tiny bit of lifter noise that lasts a couple of seconds on a cold engine at start up(only noticeable in colder weather), i have 20-40w mineral oil in there too. When your lifters are...

    Annoying knock knock

Maybe have a look at your brake rotor and pads see if something is going on there.

    Screw Plugs

Mate take a photo and go into your local Holden dealer and show them. They have exploded parts diagrams and probably will be the only place where you can get them. Maybe you could use a thread tool on them instead?

hand break warning light warning light

The brake warning light comes on when there is a fault with the handbrake apparently, I read this out of the owners manual. Does the handbrake hold well when you use it? Not easy to pull up? Could just need adjustment maybe.

    VT obd2 port not working

Cant say that I have. I use software from Envyous Customs and from time to time I'll forget to go through the necessary procedure to connect to the ECU. What are you using to connect with the port? Tech 2?

    Vx misfiring

Well you've just about ruled out spark, I'm wondering about injectors, you can test their resistance levels easily enough with a multimeter and as far as my Gregory's manual says 11.8-12.8ohms is a good reading. Having said that though I have an injector that is over 14 ohms resistance and car...

Dads supercharged VT Playing silly buggers!

Check for codes first mate before throwing parts at it. Once had an high idle on a vy v6 after doing the intake gaskets, found out eventually that the old pcv valve had an o ring still on it, while the new one came with nothing, so I put the old o ring on and that was my high idle problem. I...

    Vt engine/gearbox problem

Sebbas123, Could be your oxygen sensors. I had a very similar intermittent miss on a vy v6 that lasted almost a year, same hesitation under load and sometimes during an upshift the engine would vibrate horribly through the shift. God knows how many times over the months I checked this/that and...

    Alternator or something else?

First things first, check the coolant level to make sure your not gonna cook the engine, then get a multimeter on your battery when the engine is running, to see if the alternator is putting out a charge, 13.5-14.5 volts is normal. If it isn't, check the wiring that comes from the alternator...

    Need help !!!!

Did you take off any hoses on the fuel rail at all? They can go back on the wrong way easily and then the car won't run at all. Didn't forget to put fuse back in for fuel pump? Unlikely all injectors got clogged up bad enough so it won't even run I reckon...

    Dis connect auto aerial

Not from inside the car, you have to remove the plastic splash guard from inside the wheel arch of the passenger side and unplug it.

    Electrical short

Checking all fuses would be a good start, in engine and under steering wheel. Did you mean smudge near odometer reading? Has there been any electrical work done on the car recently? Another thing to check is charging output if you can get her running again, should be around 13.5- 14 volt.

    Vacuum lines

Is this for a standard ecotec? If it is, the only vac line I can think of goes from the bottom of the throttle body then under the plenum chamber to the canister purge solenoid. It is pretty crowded at the back of the engine but if you get a torch and just observe for awhile it's not too bad at...

    Commodore 3.8LT V6

I wouldn't be surprised if the other o2 sensor is playing up, I bought a pair of Tridon o2 sensors for my VY ute and got a fault code along with dodgy o2 symptoms in less than 12months!

Central Locking Not Opening Far Enough

I just had a look in Gregories 273. "If the doors will not unlock using the remote control transmitter or either keys, but all of the doors will unlock using the key in the drivers door, a fault is located in the remote receiver module. Use the wiring diagram at the end of this chapter to check...

    VY Commodore ABS

I had a on/off abs fault for awhile on vy v6 ute. Did all the usual checks but realised the back left sensor bolt was not able to be tightened much, and upon inspection the portion of the hole was threaded. I found a longer bolt which would reach past threaded part, and so far so good. Could be...

    URGENT car surging

Oxygen sensors maybe, I bought a pair brand new less than a year ago, and got some rough gift change, poor acceleration symptoms about a month ago. I checked for codes and found the driver side oxygen sensor was kaput.

    Vy Abs Fault!!! Help needed

is the ABS fault light on constantly or random? I have the same prob on an 03 VY, except its intermittent with the abs light. Check your rear sensors mounted on the diff, you will need a 5mm allen key to remove them, the face of the sensor may be covered in dirt, like one of mine were, not sure...

    Throttle Position Sensor Error 19.

I got quoted $180 for a VY v6 TPS 2 days ago from Holden. Really spins me out the price variations from dealers around the country. I also rang 3 dealers around Perth asking for a factory manual for car, 2 said no such thing available, 1 said its on a CD for $500. No wonder Holden are shutting...

surging at low speed coast / float throttle and jerking a 60-70kph only, coils dfi ?

Does it miss at idle? A bad coil will misfire randomly at any time the engine is running. Sounds to me like like it could be a faulty throttle position sensor, seeing that whenever it plays up your on the throttle. Heaps of vids on youtube to show you how to test these. If you do replace it, get...

    VY power window issue

Did you have replaced the power window motor regulator with an aftermarket one ? I did years ago on a ef falcon , I had the same problem, would go down perfectly but never up unless say half way. I put it down to cheap parts. Never bothered to look at it again. Make sure to get genuine part for...

    air vents not changing

From what I've read in my manual the aircon control box is controlled by a vaccuum hoses, which lead to a vacuum tank behind the glovebox, maybe one of the hoses fell off.

Ecotec V6 firing order/plug lead order.

You were spot on with the O2 sensor in my case, I wish I had tried that before the standard leads/plugs/coils changing, doh. Anyway i have spares now.
