Just a guess at water in fuel. You have replaced the fuel pump and filter but did you drain the petrol from the tank? I know of one person who did 4 pumps in a matter of weeks because he kept re-fuelling at the same place.

If it is only a head gasket just ask a mechanic for a price. Sometimes you can get a second hand motor in and out for the same price. You don't know what that motor has done though.

I have been over filling mine for a number of years now and would put in about 6 ltr or even a tad more? I fill above the double hump on the dip stick. I use pentrite syn 5 and with running on gas the oil is near spotless after 5000 ks but I still change it. Some problems with oil overfill...

If you read above it is most likely O/S air temp sensor located infront of radiator. Open it up and check for water marks inside plug. Clean with wd 40 or similiar

How many k's has it done? Does the oil smell burnt? Did you follow the correct procedure for checking the oil level? The fact that it is harsh on gear shifts suggests something is not quite right and needs further investigating.....

The only problem with learning on your car now is the cost of a mistake. Whilst I admire your desire to learn it is something that is built up over time. If you are handy with the spanners then get a mate with some experience to help and read plenty of books/posts about what to do. Good luck

I think you need to change the oil too as water will get down the gallies?

Yes normal for water to disperse after stopping. If you are getting warm air at times you probably need a re-gas.

More than likely an air leak. Perhaps one of the smaller hoses has been dislodged. Try tracing all the hoses to see if they are all connected. If it is a V6 there is one under air intake on motor that can be easily dislodged. But also take it to gas mechanic if you don't find anything...

I have vt2 calais and have similar noises from diff. I am led to believe it is the gears just meshing and normal. Just to be on the safe side check the oil level in diff.

Have you replaced plug leads? Gas tends to make minor problems major. That is it will run fine on petrol and not show any problems but when on gas????? Just a thought. Plus I take it that you have the earlier venturi type system fitted.

Brother-in-law had it done a little while ago and I think it was about $100. Locksmith did it. And if you felt inclined you could go to the small claims tribunal to try and get money from tow truck company. It is a PIA but.....

Just pop in to a wrecker. I'm sure they have many many lights so you could pick and choose. And don't be afraid to say no. I once had a wrecker try to sell me a cracked alloy rim. Ha hahahahah

I replaced my abs module due to faults but never had stalling/jumping issue when driving. Just dash lights came on. Maybe not abs module? as expensive to change.

And if you want to do that to a V6 then go for it. Not everyone has a V8. Licence probably dictates what you can drive. Just try cat back exhaust and see how you go. Remember the louder you go the more attention you attract to you and your car

I have used pliers to grip plug and long handle screwdriver to lever against pliers. Bit of effort but works ok

And there are two types(sizes?) of gaskets as I know now from personal experience

Try a new battery. You have had the car longer than batteries last these days. Mine dies every 3 years. Doesn't matter what brand.

Did you use genuine thermometer/radiator cap and coolant? Take radiator cap off and then bring engine up to temp and watch to see if thermo opens and coolant rotates ....
