    Clean internal fuel filter

Fuel pump is always sucking from the bottom, no matter how much fuel there is in the tank. You just don't want to run the pump to much on a near empty tank, as it can heat up the pump and possibly could cause premature failure.

How to Fix Power Steering loss in VF Commodore “Service Power Steering, Drive with Care”

Good to know & well done. Interesting that there is a Belt inside there. I wonder what the life of the belt is. I always thought that the motors were a direct drive with Internal Gears.

Filling in oil + filter change in service booklet when owner has performed work.

Well done. You are a champ. Well done. You are a champ. Let's just say that if I was selling my car, the perspective buyer would take one look at my garage and know that I'm pretty genuine. Being that I was a mechanic for over 10 years in the late 90's into the late 2000's.

Filling in oil + filter change in service booklet when owner has performed work.

This is what I have always done in the past and still now. A bit like a mechanics invoice. All parts and work listed on the sheet. I create a new document every time I do something to the car. Can print them off when you sell the car as proof of work. I keep all major receipts as well and...

    J-LED Custom Paddle shift kit

T The only reason I posted my review, and named thorby, was the fact that after I pulled out the Clock Spring Plug, it had the purple wire, just like thorby had. I was fairly shocked when I saw this wire, knowing that thorby had issues with his and that very same wire. I then got straight...

JLED Paddle Shift Kit for VF SSV

It works exactly the same as if you were using the Gear Selector to change. It just makes it a lot easier to change, being that your hands are on the wheel. There are some extra functions that you can use on the paddle selectors but I haven't played around with them yet. My experience with...

    J-LED Custom Paddle shift kit

All I can say is that if someone is interested in buying this kit, that they don't have to go through 11 Pages of Posts & Reply's to get to the one that actually states that it works from someone that has actually installed it. That would be traumatizing. That's why I created a new thread. I...

JLED Paddle Shift Kit for VF SSV

I have just fitted J-LED's Paddle Shift Kit & Module. It all works perfectly :) I had my concerns regarding the mentioned issues from Thorby, but everything went well and its working perfectly with no issues at all. My car (VF SSV L77 2015) had the Purple Wire in the 3rd Spot on the Clock...

Best pads for standard rotors - most cold bite

I've had the DBA orange XP pads on my SSV standard callipers and rotors for about 5 months now. Probably the best pads I have ever had. I originally only put them on the front, and found the car braked very well, maybe to well that all the braking force was towards the front. I then bought...

    Cheap ACDelco filters PF48E

AC Delco filters are probably the worst quality filters I have seen. They are very cheaply made, and internally, basically made of plastic moulded with a paper filter element. The casing is very thin, you could squash it with you hand very easily. I cut one open to compare to a Ryco filter...

    L77 dod filter

This is interesting. I have been thinking the same thing. Do you clean it or leave it until there is a problem and then clean it. My view is that when a problem starts happening, it's too late to clean as the damage is done. Would be interesting to see what others think.

    RPM at 100km/h SS L77

Update: So I took it back to the VCM Tuners on Monday. We went for a drive and showed him whats happening. There is something not right. We have determined that both "Normal" Mode & "Sports" Mode are exactly the same. Basically its acting as "Normal" in both modes. There is no Gear Holding...

    RPM at 100km/h SS L77

Thanks for the reply's guys. What is sort of worrying me, is that before the tune, if I was coasting at 100Km/h in Normal Shift, and then push it into Sports shift, the revs would jump up. But now its exactly the same going from Normal to Sports with no change in revs. Also, the Shifts in...

    RPM at 100km/h SS L77

Hi guys Does anyone know what a standard VF SSV L77 Auto revs at 100km/h. Trying to find out because I just had my car tuned and both Normal and Sports modes seem exactly the same. There is no difference in the gear changes when switching from one to the other. I have a feeling that...

    Control Arm to Chassis

Tie Rod Ends? I replaced mine because I had shaking at just over 100 (Mainly when cold) and Erratic/Wondering Steering (Almost like tram lining). After I replaced them and had a wheel alignment, it was all good. My old tie rod ends had quite a bit of play in the ball joint & were really loose...

    Lifter noise or something worse?

Update: OK so as I mentioned above, I tried a few different oil viscosities, including adding Lucas Thick oil etc. The Lucas oil gave me a bit more oil pressure but at hot idle after a minute or 2, it started making lifter tapping noise again. So I came up with 1 thing I had not tried. I had...

    Lifter noise or something worse?

I have a very similar issue with my VE SS L98 2008. Done almost 200,000km and I have hot idle oil pressure issues. When its Cold at idle and driving, it is fine. When Hot Idling, I had it fluctuating between 1 & 0 Bars of Oil pressure and after 30seconds of idling, one of my lifters starts...

FFS! Tboned in my 08 ve, driver side roof and seat airbags deployed.uninsured,at fault, still owe $

If you don't want to fork out the cash to fix it, then possibly the only option if you wanna make some good $$ back, is to sell off the parts from the car. Engine, trans, diff, interior, steering, wheels, electronic components, computer etc. You can make very good money being a DIY wrecker...

    Check oil light on idle

My VE SS L98 is doing pretty much the same thing too. Almost done 200,000 and getting oil pressure issues at hot idle. Cold idle and startup no problems. When I had 5w30 my oil pressure bars went to 0 at idle and after about 30seconds, started tapping its guts out on 1 cylinder. I did an engine...

    Aircon Leak(s)

First thing I would check is the TX valves. Undo the caps and put a bit of spit or soapy water in the valve hole and see if it bubbles. They have been known to leak with a faulty valve. (Its like a tyre valve) I think there are 2 of them with caps on them. Apart from that, it could be anywhere.

My VE SS DIY Cam swap and post tune thoughts/experiences. L98 M6.

Just some advice on anyone removing the Balancer off a VE V8 Auto, a trick I use instead of locking the Flywheel, is to tie some stong rope through the Balancer and around the Sway bar which is located directly below it. Then you can undo the bolt with the rope holding the Balancer in place...

Ve ssv 2007 auto transmission problem

Just incase you didn't know, all VE 6L80E Transmissions from 07 to early 10 had a fault with leaking internal clutch fluid seals. This caused the Flaring between the 2-3 Shift. The seal was apparantly too small and wasnt a tight fit from factory. After the Fluid heated up, the seal eventually...

    Radiator boiling but not overheating

The only thing I can think of would be Incorrect amount of coolant in the system. Water Boils at 100 Degrees which is why you need the correct dilution of anti-freeze/anti-boil in the system. Faulty Thermostat staying open might also cause it.

VE SS MY09 Auto Trans 2nd 3rd Flaring issue. Whats best fix?

The problem is actually caused by faulty/incorrect size seals. Apparently they used some incorrect size of seal, being smaller than they should have been. When cold, the seals don't form an air tight seal and allows air into the lines causing the flaring. After the fluid heats up a little, the...

Stuck with front strut mount replacement

If you are taking about the top strut rod head then you can use a 10mm spanner and tap it down with a hammer. It will be tight but it will go on. Then you can loosen the strut retaining bolt holding the 10mm spanner. Done this heaps of times to commodores over the years.

Heavy power steering on VE Calais S1

My VE SS also has heavy steering. I hate it personally. Especially when parking or turning whilst going slow. I'm wondering if it would be the pump or the rack. My tyre pressures are fine, and recently had my top front strut mounts replaced on both sides which made no difference.

    Hsv VE D bush size

Make sure you only greese the inner part of the d bush where the bar goes into. Not the outer part. If you greese the outer part it will make noise. There are some you tube videos from nolathane that will give you info on bushes and correct greesing.

Has anyone actually ever fixed their Ve gearbox

Not sure what the exact seals are. Apparantly there are quite a few that need replacing including pump seals. If you search "6L80E Flare 2-3" in google you will find a lot more info about it. But its not an easy task. Obviously requires a transmission specialist to do the work. And may cost...

Has anyone actually ever fixed their Ve gearbox

The problem with the slipping between shift 2-3 is actually caused by a faulty seal that was fitted from factory. Apparently some fluid seals were not the correct size and were too small. When the fluid and parts are cold, air enters the particular clutch and applies less pressure to the...

A/C comes on with fan VE SS 06

Not too sure why it would be doing this. If its Climate Control, maybe try disconnecting the battery for 30Mins and Reconnect. It may reset the HVAC Climate Control Computer. You can try a HVAC Reset which may/may not help. 1.Turn on Ignition but do not start car 2. Press & Hold Rear Demister...

    Auto trans fluid check

Um this is wrong. The way to check the Trans Fluid on a 6 Speed it as follows. 1. Trans Fluid temp should be between 35-55 Degrees. 2. Car MUST be Level and Engine Running in Park or Neutral. 3. Undo the Bottom Drain / Check Bolt. (It is not a drain bolt and wont drain the Sump so dont panic.)...

    VE Calais Transmission Noise

If it is Transmission related, it could be that it is underfilled. I had an issue with my transmission when I serviced it myself. Clutch gone on first day???

Clutch is actually a Road Worthy Item. If worn out or a fault with Clutch Assembly or Pedal, its a Roadworthy item and needs to be fixed. Dont worry about warranty. Wheel torque settings

I torqued my wheel nuts to 170nm and after a week, found that my wheel bearings were getting noisy. Dropped the torque to 150nm and the noise went away. Maybe too much pressure on the bearings.
