If you do a search on this forum for how to display the fault codes (bridging pins 5&6 on the OBD connector) you should be able to get the car to tell you what's wrong. Simple but saved me hours of mucking around on my VX. The fault code should at least point you in the right direction...

Replacement switch fixed the flickering. Didn't get to the head unit yet d'oh.

Ok so no change yet. The one-way valve and the plenum connection looks all good now and the rubber doesn't seem perished. Looks like I'll have to have a look at the HVAC connection where the vacuum comes into the unit.

Found the thin end of the rubber hose under the engine cover and it was quite a loose fit. I cut off 1cm of the hose and reconnected it - feels like a better fit. Guess I'll find out tomorrow if it's sorted... will post results.

Level 3 headunit from a series one HSV will fit an Omega with some work (and expense). Your 'new' headunit and airconditioning (HAVC) controller would need re-programming. If you do a search on here, you'll find heaps of info on the conversion of headunits etc.
