Give it plenty of boot to run it in, you may as well check this motor is good :)

Might take it a little bit easier with this one mate...I think I've proved already they're not a race engine lol

The worst thing for running in a motor is to take it easy, the best way to bed rings in is with moderate load working the engine through about 2/3rds the rev range. Modern engines with roller everything don't need that old school cam bedding in procedure but the rings still need a workout. The single worst thing you can do is cruise down the motorway at constant load/rpm on new rings.

I'd love to know what failed on the original but I doubt they will ever tell you.

I had the wrong year. It was 77, not 74. was referring to headlight on/off, dimmer, wiper/washer etc. Holden used to have a floor mounted dipswitch and all wiper and light controls on the dash. The HX and UC finally placed them on a column mounted multi switch like the Euros and Japs had done for years.

I could swear my VN had wiper etc on the dash and only indicator and high beam on the column.

Yes all my VNs had rotary switches for wipers at the side edges of the dashboard.

Yes "Binnacle switches" were a carry over from VL and Headlights returned to the dash in VR. Moving forward was definitely not a Holden thing was it ?

And yet my VS & VE had / have headlight controls on the dash o_O
I think all Commodores have dash mounted headlight switches except the VL?

VN - on the end of the instrument panel, so a little different. Had to look at images to be sure.

I've already tried to clarify my original point FFS. EARLY HOLDENS HAD A FLOOR MOUNTED DIP SWITCH which finally was replaced by a headlight flasher on the column. Yeah, light switch has remained on the dash in various forms. I guess most of you are too young to have ever experienced a floor mounted dip switch. Holden stuck with it years after everybody else consigned it to the dustbin. Comprende?
