+1 alternator. Check battery voltages, check voltage on car while running. Intermittent fault on alternator, could be supporting bracket that is near the +B terminal touches, or arcs. Reason being is a mechanic might've taken it off and put it on backwards (like I did the other night) and then it won't have the necessary clearance to avoid the arc.

Check rubber and guard around +B terminal (bolted cable behind alternator) for evidence of arcing. If it's melted slightly or seems to have a hole, there might be your first indication.

I had very similar issues a while back. I was quoted ABS module as well but an auto elec friend of my brothers suggested I just swap out the alternator and see what happens. Fixed it.

Thanks for all the replies. So, they sent the module away (they had no replacements on the shelf) and apparently a problem WAS found with the ABS module. But without the module in, the same problem still occurs. When I told them that, the response was "That's weird. We'll have a look."

So, I guess I'll just ask them to poke around the alternator.

Too many to list......
I would suggest a battery first as its easy to borrow from a friend and always worth eliminating.

Then I would be checking each and every earth point in the engine bay.

Then Id change the alternator.

ABS unit is not normally an intermittent issue.

well if the module is faulty, then when it's connected it's gonna send problems through the system... when you disconnect the module the system goes "hmmm not getting a response from the module... somethings wrong". So why should the problems stop when you disconnect the module? They should stop when a fully operational module is connected, right?

Lout, replacing the alternator would have done nothing. It was the cluster dying.

Thanks everyone for the help!

EDIT: Apparently, it's on the same line as the ABS Module, so when it's playing up it can have the same effects.
