I'd suggest if you want to stick to Alpine for your whole system get a PDX-1.600 for your sub or the new PDX-M6 and a either a PDX-4.100 / PDX-4.150 or the new PDX-F4 / PDX-F6 for your speakers.

Hi Bog, I am also from Bendigo and are looking at this system. Did you go to Bendigo Auto Sound for that installation quote? They quoted me $495. I may have a different car which may be harder but $300 is a fair difference.
Have you committed to the R pack yet?

Hey Bog, I ended up getting the following: (head unit off ebay, the rest from Bendigo auto sound)

Alpine IDA-X305S - head unit

SPR-17S - splits
SPR-17C - components
F600 - amp to run speakers ---- All this stuff was $1860
M500 - amp to run sub
SWR-1223D - Sub

Cables, installation and Ford Fitting Kit

All up, it's around $3100. (Nearly $1000 over my budget... whoops!!! :p)

Did you seriously spend over $3k for all of that? Seriously shop around. I could probably get all of that for $2k or just under.

Speakers you should be able to pick up for $500 if not less.
The Alpine F600 amp you should be able to get for around $450.00
The Alpine M500 amp you should be able to get for around $330.00
The Alpine IDA-X305S should be able to get it for around $350.00
The sub well is hard to find but it shouldn't be any over $400 with a box
Wiring kit, allow yourself around $100.00

If you buy it all from the same place, they should be able to give you even more of a discount.

Your total there is $2130.
Installation was $495.
Fitting kit was $70.

Total is now up to $2695.

Is all the stuff you've quoted grey import or legit Australian alpine gear? I'd rather spend a bit more so that I can walk into the shop and have them fix it free of charge without having to pay for removal fee, repair fee and re-installation fee.
If it's still warranty, you still have to get it removed by certified dealer and reinstalled the same way to avoid voiding warranty.
I'm very happy with the price I got.

EDIT: Just for interests sake.... here is the research I did on these items. Please note that they are still in USD.

Sonicelectronix.com

Alpine X505s - $300
SWR-1223D - $85
SPR-17S - $150
SPR-17C - $90
PDX-F6 - $550
PDX-M6 - $400

Shipping - $72

Total - $1647

onlinecarstereo.com

Alpine X505s - $295
SWR-1223D - $139
SPR-17S - $139
SPR-17C - $89
PDX-F6 - $579
PDX-M6 - $379

Shipping - $?

Total - $1620

For an extra couple hundred dollars, I'm glad I've bought locally!
