I resprayed the rims today. They came up with a much better glossier finish out of the wind and in the cooler part of the day. I’m of two minds to do a 2K clear.

I guess I could always do that at a later date as a weekend project. They might do for now.

A wheely good question.

Wasn’t happy with the gloss of the expoxy.

A quick light coat or two of clear coat and there’s the result. I was stoked the air valves worked out well. I though fir sure there would be paint on them.

Cut out the carpet for tub today. Used the carpet from the other one as a template. Black marine carpet in this time. The grey goes back in the other one.

Commandeered the kids chalk for the pattern.

Also installed all the nutserts for fixing points on the hard lid. Now I just have to swap the hardware over with all the mounting points there.

Marked the hole spaces. Then punched the start. Pilot hole. Then the required 7mm hole for the M5 nutserts.

Commandeered the kids paint set for a brush. Cold Galv on the holes. Got as much under as I could.

Some sealant in with the nutsert to protect from water ingress.

The crewman hardware for the hard lids are way more sizable than regular utes. You could use normal ute mounts, but that top panel has a lot of flex. The crewman hardware strengthens the whole top of the tub for the lid.
When removing this hardware from my other Crewman, the effects of trapped water were obvious. So some closed cell seal went on underneath. Rust cleaned up and nutserts used on that as well.

This will now be refitted to my current crewman until later.

Brakes are done. Cleaned up bolt threads, a spot of blue thread lock. Carrier bolts torqued to 85Nm and guide pin bolts to 35Nm as specified by Holden.

* Yes I will clean up all mating surfaces including wheel nuts

All the grease in the guide pins was dry. Now done with silicone paste. Replaced a guide pin seal.

I already fitted the strut mount to the Cross 8 rail. Measured off what I had. Used nutserts.

So. Off came the side skirts. Glad of it too.

Lots of mould in there. More of this black/green sludge and pineneedles.

The metal inserts will be removed and given a paint.

removed the screws from the bottom.

then these horrid things. Quite a few came out in bits with pliers. I will be replacing with push fit scrivets. To access them, lift the seal under the door.

Then this Christmas tree clip. Levered out with a trim tool.

off they came. There is a tricky clip at the back corner.these have been partly cleaned. Sugar soap, then pressure cleaned. Next will be some wheel cleaner and aerospace 303. Paint the aluminium trims silver.

Schmutz. I had already done some citrus cleaner here. Not much of a result.

the scrivets are going in the bin.

there are rubber grommets in the sill. These can block up and cause some issues. I will be flushing the rocker sills using a 4mm Retic tube. Here they are in a bag soaking in aerospace 303. As are the screws with the plastic attachments

these will be ceremonially binned. Grrrr. *Waves fist at them.
